Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Actually, I think you’re right! I heard somewhere that it was indeed a bomb shelter! They built a bomb shelter and put a car in it! Heh!
Hair was spot on when she said “Quirky”. I think the entire state of Oklahoma is quirky. And since I consider myself somewhat quirky, I guess that’s why I love living here so much. I really felt like I came home when we moved here.
It just seemed that for this one weekend, being quirky was given a bit of an elevated status in the eyes of the world...and it was nice.
Wow, how did it get to be almost lunchtime? This whole productivity thing is cool.
Ugh, it’s the guy with the annoying voice subbing for Rush.
as far as I know, we ain't sellin' none... mrsnad's friend used all organic feed, and they were much larger than the other folks' birds... that also explains the higher cost... i'n yuh use regular feed, you can usually get a bird to slaughter fer about $5...
much kewlness...
I wonder how much it costs to raise a cow or pig...per pound.
When I was little, the naybors used to raise a few pigs every year. And every year the darn things would get out at least a few times and cause trouble. I have vivid memories of chasing ‘em back down the road...using a hula hoop to herd them, for some reason. I was seven or eight...seemed like a good idea at the time.
Heh, I am thinking of the James Herriot story where they had the pigs escape and run over town... the ones Siegfried was raising in the pen out back. I don’t remember why he wanted to raise them.
I need a copy of those books. Hmm.
Bob and Kay have raised chickens, beef, and pigs, and they came to the conclusion chickens weren’t worth the trouble, beef they about broke even on cost of raising versus buying, but the quality of the meat was worth it, and pigs were the best bang for the buck. The butcher custom cut bacon and chops were so much better than from the store.
I’d like to own ‘em, too. Used to read and reread and reread those.
I also don’t own the Narnia books. Or Madeleine L’Engle’s books - the Meg ones, anyhow.
And I’m missing about half of the Nero Wolfe mysteries ever printed.
What’s up with that?
I keep telling myself to hit the children’s section of used bookstores for classics. I’ll probably have to buy Narnia and Little House as sets though. There’s only one decent used bookstore in town but one of our houseguests this weekend mentioned that Iowa City, half an hour down the road, had 6 or 7 a few years back...
It’s hard to find full sets in good condition at used bookstores. Ditto for the Little House books - can add those to my list.
And the Anne books. Won’t be toooo long before I should pick those up for thenieces, either... Cool.
We used to get some of the pork, but I was too little to really be able to tell the difference between store-bought and theirs.
In their case, it was pretty much free to raise the pigs, since at the time the wife worked for a restaurant in town and could bring home the leftovers and scraps for the pigs.
Cool, you can be the crazy aunt who always gives books instead of sneakers as Christmas presents ;-)
A Wrinkle in Time...one of my absolute faves. Gotta get it for Steve, he’s never read it!
Heh...so far two of the three presents I’ve ever given her have been books.
But then, that goes for Dad, too. And other siblings.
Kid’s gonna need her own home library room by the time she’s five. ;-)
Hehehe. As it should be.
There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of ev’ryday
There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow
And tomorrow’s just a dream away
Man has a dream and that’s the start
He follows his dream with mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It’s a dream come true for you and me
So there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of ev’ryday
There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow
Just a dream away
Waiter! I’ll have what he’s having.
