McMinnville - The parents say school officials overreacted to a dance move
McMINNVILLE -- A 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy have been charged with sexual abuse after a teacher saw them slapping the backsides of female classmates, McMinnville police said.
The Patton Middle School students spent five days at the Juvenile Detention Facility in McMinnville but are now at home under 24-hour surveillance by their parents and will not attend school. They are due back in court March 9.
School district spokeswoman Tanya Gross said a teacher saw students "slapping each other's bottoms" last week and ordered them to stop. When they continued, she said, the teacher reported the situation to Principal Jim Torgerson and Vice Principal Steve Tillery.
Based on what they learned from interviews with students, Torgerson and Tillery concluded that activity of a "more serious nature" had taken place and notified police, Gross said.
McMinnville police Capt. Rob Edgell declined to detail the alleged conduct, but said: "There was a teacher who observed some inappropriate slapping of bottoms, which basically opened a Pandora's box."
In court Tuesday, it was revealed that the boys also allegedly poked breasts.
Parents of the two boys said officials overreacted. They said they were aware of nothing more serious than a dance move in which bottoms are swatted. The father of the 12-year-old boy said students have been engaging in the so-called "party boy dance," popularized in the movie "Jackass," for several months.
"Everyone does it to each other, that's what I'm gathering," he said. "They're all friends. I don't think anything was done maliciously or in a sexual way."
He said the boys are good friends, and it appeared to him that school and police officials were making an example of them.
"My boy's never been in trouble," he said. "He's never done anything inappropriate. He's not that way."
The mother of one of the 13-year-old girls involved said the boys were asked not to do it.
"The girls keep saying, 'stop, stop, stop,' but the boys don't listen," she said. "They run up and down the halls doing this."
Actually, the parents should be in jail for raising boys with no respect for girls.
I also thought it was funny that his daddy blamed the behavior on the movie Jackass.
Without question, daddy is the real jackass in this case.
You're missing the point, nobody belongs in jail here. The criminal justice system should have never gotten involved. I live about 1 1/2 hrs. south of where this is taking place. The county here says it's so strapped for cash that they just imposed an income tax on everybody to pay for "public safety" measures, even though we just voted down a similar measure in November, what do we know we're just the one's who have to foot the bill. Now if the same stupidity goes on here as what goes on there, then I say screw them all, they all need to lose their jobs and funding and go sell rubber dog poop. How much do you suppose this is all going to cost the taxpayers and the families of these two "KIDS"????

Eww! My dad met his future wife by swatting her on the bottom while passing when they were at the ice skating pond. This was back in the late '40s or early '50s. He later got her phone number. These days she probably would have just have slapped him with a law suit.

I meant that all the adults in the story were nuts not you. I think your reaction to mashers is normal but then I'm an old guy. Today if you teach you daughter to defend herself with a swift kick to a soft spot she will probably spend years in therapy for anger management issues.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Adult liberals seem to project their perversions onto everyone they observe especially children who are not intellectually equipped to rebut them.
So, let's start again ~ you have 11 and 12 year old kids ~ the boys don't necessarily see the girls as objects for sexual gratification.
The cops in this case did.
Are you one of those cops? If you are, you'd best get over those feelings you have about 11 and 12 year old girls ~ 'cause if you don't you may find yourself in a lot of trouble.
