McMinnville - The parents say school officials overreacted to a dance move
McMINNVILLE -- A 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy have been charged with sexual abuse after a teacher saw them slapping the backsides of female classmates, McMinnville police said.
The Patton Middle School students spent five days at the Juvenile Detention Facility in McMinnville but are now at home under 24-hour surveillance by their parents and will not attend school. They are due back in court March 9.
School district spokeswoman Tanya Gross said a teacher saw students "slapping each other's bottoms" last week and ordered them to stop. When they continued, she said, the teacher reported the situation to Principal Jim Torgerson and Vice Principal Steve Tillery.
Based on what they learned from interviews with students, Torgerson and Tillery concluded that activity of a "more serious nature" had taken place and notified police, Gross said.
McMinnville police Capt. Rob Edgell declined to detail the alleged conduct, but said: "There was a teacher who observed some inappropriate slapping of bottoms, which basically opened a Pandora's box."
In court Tuesday, it was revealed that the boys also allegedly poked breasts.
Parents of the two boys said officials overreacted. They said they were aware of nothing more serious than a dance move in which bottoms are swatted. The father of the 12-year-old boy said students have been engaging in the so-called "party boy dance," popularized in the movie "Jackass," for several months.
"Everyone does it to each other, that's what I'm gathering," he said. "They're all friends. I don't think anything was done maliciously or in a sexual way."
He said the boys are good friends, and it appeared to him that school and police officials were making an example of them.
"My boy's never been in trouble," he said. "He's never done anything inappropriate. He's not that way."
The mother of one of the 13-year-old girls involved said the boys were asked not to do it.
"The girls keep saying, 'stop, stop, stop,' but the boys don't listen," she said. "They run up and down the halls doing this."
When I was in third or fourth grade a friend of mine snapped a girls training bra and came back in from recess claiming to have committed his first rape. (He lived with his grandmother and was already way nuts).
Sometimes a boy needs a good talking to by a grown man.
this kind of hosring around happens all the time. IMHO, this is a big overreaction.
As the saying goes, making a mountain out of a molehill.
I can unserstand then being punished by school or susupended, but these kids could end up being classified as sex offenders and having to register if the school and the state decide to make an example out of them.
I think the principal and vice-principal, the cop, the DA and anyone else involved in this lunacy need to be lined up and shot. Then and only then will they stop this PC idiocy that criminalizes the natural tendencies and hormones of 12 year olds playing grab A$$, and wastes incredible amounts of taxpayer money. This is just stupid.
I did the same thing when I was in 6th grade. It wasn't a dance move, just me and my buddies thinking it was cool to pop a girl on the behind.
One girl didn't tell on me, she simply turned around and slapped the far out of me.
But the principle gave me four licks with a paddle. Needless to say I got many more swats with the belt after I got home.
And that was the end of it.......
nah. worse, they'll end up registering because of ridiculous ZERO TOLERANCE policies.
The Girls Said "Stop, Stop, Stop!" It therefore is Assault, not "hosring {sic} around."
Yes it is....What about the young girls who slap boys on their rears? My son used to come home from high school and tell me his girlfriend was mad that all these girls were grabbing his rear. I tell my daughter if somebody touches you at school tell them to stop. if they continue to touch you kick them. I really don't care what the school says if she is being touched she has the right to stop it. I told the school in Sept how we deal with things and that if they have a problem that they can suspend her. If I were being grabbed by a 12 yr old boy back in the day he would have been kicked in the privates. Or gotten a hard crack. It might have happened once but it sure wouldn't have ever happened twice. My parents would have fully backed me getting suspended too.
ZERO TOLERANCE is BS.
It was 1994. My brother was suspended from highschool and got a record.
We went fishing one weekend and he left his tacklebox in the bed of his truck with the fillet knife in it. He drove to school and they found it. He got charged with having a weapon on school grounds.
No kidding.
Careful, she might get arrested for assault and end up with a record. Not to mention the $10,000 you'll have to drop to hire an attorney.
There was a time when a girl would slap a guy upside the head for something like this, and everybody would just get on with their life. Now they have to make a f$%king federal case out of every little thing.
Yes and I think they should get 30 years of hard labor on a chain gang for their crimes against humanity. We can't let these 12 year olds get away with their rampant games of "Grab A$$" any longer, they are a menace to society and need lifetime GPS monitoring. The next thing you know they'll be playing spin the bottle. Sheesh we need to slap them irons immediately. </sarcasm>
Hmmmm shes only 7 yrs old. If that happens I will sue the school and pay any lawsuits that way. Things sure have changed since I was in school. I can clearly remember smacking a boy for grabbing me and getting away with it. I don't intend to keep her in school much longer. I plan to homeschool all summer and if it goes well then I will just continue to do it. I don't like the school system anyway. I am glad her Godfather is a lawyer though. ~P~
ping
No, but they need to learn the lesson that "no means no."
PC jihad run amok.
it seems like you are "hosring" around too.
I do think they should be suspended. Let the punishment match the crime.
But throwing them in jail is extreme. Flip the roles. The teachers would have been laughing along.
And to learn that lesson they need to have their lives destroyed, completely???? Are you insane??????
I'm thinking everyone here is nuts. Except the kids who are just being kids. The father can't see anything inappropriate because the kids saw it in Jackass? Well no wonder! If he thinks it's appropriate to let his kid watch that how could he possibly discern what's appropriate? What a maroon. And then there are the complete fruitloops who put 12 yr old kids in jail and call them sexual predators for slapping other kids butts. Pull these kids out of town, put a big wall around it and call it an insane asylum. Or call it Jackass Town.
