As we settle into the nighttime of despair, fret not, for the Sun will rise again!!
Good morning!!
Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
The shrill from the left is taking on biblical proportions--"how dare you say we are not patriotic--our blood flows tricolored, red, white, and true blue." We hear laments from the left that we should not suspect their patriotism and that it is not improper to speak out against the war; doing so should actually, in their minds, be the height of patriotism.
That's in the category of "it depends". This space could, legitimately in its exercise of free speech and free press, say prosecuting the war is nuts and that we should cease and desist--market forces (that is to say, all of you who read this who would then immediately bail, not to mention the grace provided by the host of this site who would surely discontinue the right to publish this material) dictate otherwise. But the effect on National Security of The Right Way thread saying the Iraq war is a mistake is not of a high order.
On the other hand, for the Congress of the United States, who sets National policy, to say such a thing is indeed highly dangerous to us and our progeny. Indeed, the Congress did set the Iraq war as National policy some years ago--it is demoralizing and demeaning to our fighting forces who are in harms way. The course should be victory--victory is an excellent exit strategy and should be pursued. In the "a rose is a rose" category, you can call any other thing anything you want, such as "strategic redeployment," but it is still cut and run. It is still surrender.
It is, in fact, unpatriotic.
But, let's presume for sake of argument the left has only temporarily lost its mind. In such a case, it should be difficult to find examples of other examples of "patriotism" by the other party.
Find it, however, not only occurred, whittling it down to a "top 10" list (with all due apologies to David Letterman) proved difficult. In getting to this list, only events in the last 15 years were considered (Vietnam and its aftermatch would warrant its own top 100 [no, the extra zero is not a typo] list).
So, here is the top 10 list of leftist patriotism, on display for the entire country.
10. Sending black hooded agents to swoop down on a neighborhood in white vans, fully decked out with heavy automatic weapons, bullet proof vests, and full military gear to kidnap a child with the aim to send him back to the prison island of Cuba--a place where people risk their very lives to escape from and where it is a capital crime to privately possess a boat.
9. Bombing an asprin factory in the Sudan in an attempt to deflect the debate away from the person's own Impeachment proceedings.
8. Spending more time to ensure every "t" and every "i" was addressed in an overflight request to Pakistan to allow for bombing of a site where Osama was known to be before sending the missiles--an effort which since then it has become known was leaked to Pakistan's secret service folks who leaked it to Al Qaeda, who got Osama out before the missiles came in. This is also known as the infamous "missile strike against camels and tents".
7. The "Monica Attacks" in Yugoslavia, where the leftists were more concerned with the propriety of criticising the President in a time of their feigned war than in the President's actual ability to run such a war.
6. "I voted for the war before I voted against it."
5. Using tanks and armored flame throwers against United States citizens in a massacre dressed up as "enforcing the law"--an event to this day which has never been properly investigated.
4. Refusing to secure our southern border, instead creating any mechansim possible to actually increase illegal entry into the United States.
3. Saying they support our troops, but failing to understand that the armed forces are an instrumentality of war, which itself is an instrumentality of American foreign policy--whether they like it or not--in a world that is full of very bad people. In this light, their attitude is--"hey, it's great to have a good military, but all you bad guys out there, don't worry, we won't actually let a President use this power."
2. Telling Iran the President will not be allowed to pursue a military solution to that country's nuclear buildup. Not that such a solution would be pursued, but now the Iranians need not worry about it--and it is already clear they don't intend to acknowledge any other kind of pressure.
But the number one reason why leftists should not be considered patriotic and allowed near the instruments of National power was, and remains...
1. Being orally serviced by an intern while discussing with a United States Senator the conduct of ongoing military operations.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
That's gonna leave a mark.
Next week I'll be in Lake Oswego, Oregon doing my summary training. that meanms I'll only be freeping AT NIGHT.
Everytime I get online everybody else is off...well, next week maybe we'll hit the site together!
Hi sweetie, I am here but working on something I am posting shortly.. Glad the tests are out of the way.. results .. well, hope they are good. NIce to travel & FReep!!!!
Near Bev?
The same thing happens to me. I back for a few.
She's still at the hospital. They found some fluids in the abdomen with an ultrasound. Maybe something went wrong after the operation last week ? Infection??
Sheesh!
Wishing good thoughts for the SH. I'm so sorry she's in such pain.
Darn if the weather messes up your plans.
Awwww getting ready for Easter?
Tulips and bunnies and all...sweet
A few weeks ago, when President Bush announced the 'merge', I caught a tiny blurb......it was EXTREMELY tiny.......and I don't know which talk show I caught it on.....that we had ONLY ~5000 troops in Baghdad and ALL, if not most, of these 20000+ troops would be deployed to Baghdad....increasing that number of ~5000 by several hundred percent! I, and even I, computing an additional ~20000 troops on an additional ~150,000 troops deployed in theatre meant essentially 'nothing'....BUT......if it is ~20000 on an original ~5000 troops IN BAGHDAD alone, that is OVERWHELMING FORCE!
Is anyone else aware of this?
Hi, Two Thirds.
I'm not aware of how many troops we had in Baghdad before the surge, but Dog might know. If those #'s are correct, then you're right and this is a huge increase.
What concerns me is that with all the talking going on those jihadists have boogied right out of Baghdad and plan to return at a later date. It's impossible to imagine WWII being fought in such a climate.
I hope everything is going okay in your life, Two Thirds. It sounds like you're busy and hope it's a good busy.
Really nice display, Dog, I like the lamp, it looks familiar. lol
Nap was shortened by the telephone. But it's probably for the best.
Iowa Freepers were supposed to get together tomorrow night, but I think it's been postponed due to weather. Those North of us are getting it much worse than we are.
We've had sleet and rain off and on all afternoon. When we went to the KC Fish Fry tonite the roads were decent. But I can see a glare of sleet frozen on the driveway now.
I'm starting to get tired again, so I'll be going to bed soon.
Yo !
Good morning!
I think it was an AVG update.
