We Have Had Enough
Enter at your own risk could well be good and appropriate advice for anyone dumb enough to even try to negotiate their way through the mess that has been left behind in the turbulent wake of one Anna Nicole Smith.
We have no desire ‘to touch this one’.
But suffice it to say that we are today quite discomfited by the fact that there are so very many Bahamians who are seemingly ecstatic as they lap up their share of ‘cheap fame’.
This country deserves better.
But even as we make this observation, we are realistic enough to know and understand that some of this kind of stuff was due to happen one fine day due to the fact that The Bahamas – as a get away for the rich and famous – looms large in the minds of hundreds of millions of people around the world.
Anna Nicole Smith is but one of them!
For our part, our interest is with those issues that are strictly speaking news-worthy.
As such, we leave the more titillating aspects of this matter to others in the craft who lean in that direction.
As for new information, it is to be noted that Anna Nicole Smith’s attorney/partner Howard K. Stern has revealed the photos of the actress and Bahamian minister Shane Gibson that appeared in a Nassau newspaper were among items stolen from his home. Stern returned to the Nassau home he shared with his late girlfriend at the weekend - and found it had been ransacked."
We note also that there are indications that Mr. Stern did meet with local police on Monday to file a report into the robbery which he alleges took place in the 24 hours after Smith's death last week.
We are also being told that Stern called the thieves "despicable" for stealing a dead woman's belongings. Among these were innocent photographs of his girlfriend and Gibson embracing.
Stern, we are told, is seething in anger. One published report allegedly quotes him as having said to media, "It's despicable that this could occur... I'm absolutely certain that these pictures are from a stolen (computer) hard drive because I shot them with Anna Nicole's camera. It's such an invasion... These people are the scum of the earth."
For his part, the Hon. D. Shane Gibson insists his relationship with Anna Nicole was nothing like what has been suggested by the local media. The Immigration Minister says, "This is the political season. I guess that somebody was being mischievous and trying to create an impression that did not exist."
There is an old saying to the effect that all is fair in love and war. No matter how popular lore may construe or obfuscate the truth, we are convinced that there must always be limits.
And while we are in this vein as we reference the need for limits, let it be known that we are leaning in that direction where the prescription calls for some brakes to be put on the Anna Nicole Smith feeding frenzy.
More specifically, we would like to see the coming of that day when all concerned would allow the matters that are specifically ‘legal’ to find their way to court. And in those instances where the matter at hand is treated from a ‘political’ angle that all efforts be made to see to it that balance, fairness and a sense of proportionality are allowed.
Yet again, we make the point that at this juncture we are agnostic concerning any of the political merits or demerits concerning the extent to which the Hon. D. Shane Gibson should be criticized for the part he and his family – immediate and extended – has played in the drama involving this American celebrity, Anna Nicole Smith.
We too would like – just for the sake of information – some closure to the question concerning the issue involving paternity of Anna Nicole’s infant daughter who was born in The Bahamas.
In this regard, we are told that one of the men claiming to be the father of Anna Nicole Smith's newborn daughter is mounting a legal attack in The Bahamas. That man is one Larry Birkhead.
We are told that Birkhead has filed a claim, alleging fraud and conspiracy against Anna Nicole, her lawyer-lover, Howard K. Stern, and the Registrar who certified the baby girl's birth certificate.
Quite evidently, this newest development opens the door to force a paternity test in The Bahamas. Birkhead has already filed legal papers in Los Angeles asking a judge to force the issue.
And just as evidently, once the paternity issue is settled, the Anna Nicole Smith Circus will surface somewhere else on God’s green earth. We pray that the place in question is far away from The Bahamas.

There's something wrong about the reporting in that story. Others said that Brigitte Neven was there as King Eric Gibson's "companion."
The nurse who called the bodyguard, "Moe," was his wife - this story at the link would mean that Moe's wife was messing around with Immigration Minister Shane Gibson's father! I really don't think so.
Here's one passage I had copied earlier that might be closer to correct:

Bahamian entertainer 'King' Eric Gibson, Shane Gibson's father, and his longtime companion Brigitte Neven had accompanied the former Playboy playmate, model and reality TV character Anna Nicole Smith and her partner Howard K. Stern to Florida last week to assist in purchasing a boat, which they were reportedly planning to sail back to The Bahamas.
The trip took a grim turn last Thursday when Smith was found naked, unconscious and unresponsive by Neven and a private nurse at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
In a live interview on MSNBC on Tuesday night, Gibson and Brigitte told of how they found the star's naked body and immediately called for help. Brigitte said that although her feet were warm, Anna Nicole appeared to be in a comatose state and showed no signs of movement up until the time health professionals arrived on the scene. ..."
I watched an interview Rita Cosby held with Brigitte Neven last week and she said she noticed something wasn't right, walked over and ANS mouth was hanging open, she tried to close it and it would not close... at that point SHE notified the nurse something was wrong and they tried to resuscitate her, said she was still warm, but not breathing... they held a mirror to her mouth and there was no breath... no pulse or heartbeat. The nurse tried to massage her body while Brigitte Neven rubbed her feet to try and rouse her... finally they called for outside help.
