I think the pitcher was right there but he was incapable of holding it steady enough to make himself look "superior" to the emotional people in the court.
He had emptied the pitcher. It was empty and he was pretending to pour water into it. It was funny Larry went up there and picked it up and it was bone dry.
Did you notice that Stern drank more water the more nervous he was. I found it comical.
