Anna Nicole Smith collapsed in her hotel room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and was rushed to a hospital on Thursday. A Hollywood, Fla., fire department spokesman told MSNBC TV that the actress was unresponsive when the rescue unit arrived on the scene.
Sources confirmed to Access Hollywood that Smith was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. EST on Thursday. Access Hollywood also is reporting that Smith was intubated at the scene.
Officials told the Miami Herald, "it does not look good."
For the benefit of those of us overseas, just who is this "Anna Nicole Smith"?
Was she a person of any significance to the country?
(I noted the thread was up to nearly 4,000 so it seemed like a big thing).
Anyone on this thread, (not just "onyx"), could you kindly fill is in overseas and as to why this was a critical matter and her importance?
She was famous mostly for being famous and rich. Married an old guy who died and ended up with $200 million. The idea of money combined with celebrity are enough to attract many people.
Anna was a pulp culture figure. Thats all. I just returned from 4 months in Asia, so I had to watch the news to figure out who she was myself.
I guess that is easier to grasp than such other troublesome current issues as North Korean missiles being tested to hit the US and blow major American populations away, that kind of thing.
Kind of like the All OJ All the time, and that missing blonde girl in Aruba phenomenon?
LOL! I wouldn't know where to start trying to explain her to you.
The thread is filled with photos and maybe you'll recognize her. :0)
More misc. trivia:
In looking for info about Dr. Joshua Perper (you know what I was wondering), I discovered that his son Harry Perper M.D. is an Orlando abortionist. He was embroiled in the nasty case of the woman whose baby was born in the clinic on day two of a 2-day procedure, and the medical staff didn't help the baby. The doctor was charged with battery, but I didn't find a resolution to the story yet.
Kind of like the All OJ All the time, and that missing blonde girl in Aruba phenomenon?
Slightly different. Her death kinda takes on the moral thing in that:
All the money in the world can't buy happiness
People who lead careless, immoral lives have to pay for it eventually.
And, it just makes folks struggling to get by feel better when a rich person dies.
in a nutshell...

Whoa, I think you should think about that last line. I certainly don't feel "better" and I think most here would say the same. It's a tragic story with so many twists and turns one can't help but be drawn into it. It's just a little reminder to us that money doesn't buy happiness. Just look at all the actors and actresses in rehab. I'm so thankful I'm not one of them. Not for all the money in the world.
This is the story in a nutshell: She was a stripper, married an old rich guy who died and she inherited a bunch of money after an unseemly the court battle. She modeled a little, acted a little and led a fairly careless lifestyle. Not really a whole bunch of twists and/or turns and not really a surprise ending.
Sounds like simply just a lot of nothing being fashioned, rigged and promoted into something.
The movie "Truman" takes on more and more reality for me it seems, looking at respondent American society/pop culture from a distance, what with all its tabloid obsessions, and non-issues elevated to urgency, and truly important issues hardly discussed--one wonders, are our OWN lives really THAT boring?? Talking heads like Nancy Grace (she must be milking it to death, I would imagine, just about now--though I cannot get her show in Japan) shouting and yelling into the screen at each American as if to dictate what is and should be of major impact to our own lives.
Sad she died, this woman, but also sad it seems that America is so fickle that it seemly craves, eats, digests on the whole this crass journalistic barf and then screams for more pablum. God help our country and our mass culture.
That, and that dippy Astronaut chick I just read about.
...and next week it will be something else.
You're right, not really a surprise ending. But I'm hoping the baby gets a much better life, whoever the daddy may be. That's the part that interests me. Seems like Anna's been around the block more than a few times. I feel for that baby and hope she winds up with someone who really cares about her more than any amount of money.
What a week here in florida. The tornados ... the Monsoon Bowl ... the astronut ... and now anna nicole
I'd say the baby has about the same shot at happiness as Doris Duke or Gloria Vanderbilt.
Our sin is we like to throw them up there, the more humble beginnings the better, but even more than that, we like to see them fall
Congrats on the new baby girl, TK!
Prayers up.
Well, if this story doesn't interest you there is always TomKat can't dance. ;oD
Have a good day.
"What Not to Wear" is one of my favorite shows, and I missed it last night because of watching the Anna Nicole coverage on all channels!
