In fact, knowing the lying, arrogant punks were put in their place makes the show even more enjoyable for me.

Well, to each his own, although I must admit I find your description of them a little overboard. Rob and Amber were competitive, and not out to make "friends" of everyone in the race, like Kentucky.

A spelling error, one that almost anyone might make in the heat of a competitive race like that, arrogant or not, cost them the race. In addition to their competitiveness, I admire Rob and Amber for not grousing on and on about how Uchenna and Joyce were given a most unfair break in being allowed to board that airplane after the gate had already closed. In this day of post 9-11, I find it most odd that that event was allowed to occur.

I enjoyed Rob and Amber this season. But you are misunderstanding the events of their prior season. 1) Rob and Amber were given an "unfair break" earlier in the race themselves when plane came back for them. 2) Uchenna, Phil, et al have explained how poorly that scene was edited. Uchenna and Joyce found out that the ticket agent lied to them about the flight (after Rob asked her to). They raised a fuss about being lied to (wouldn't you?) and the gate agent, faced with a very upset Uchenna and several cameras called the plane back. I'd hardly call that unfair.

That't not how I recall the events of that season, so I will have to take your word.

What was the lie that Rob had the ticket agent tell Uchenna and Joyce? My recollection is that they arrived at the gate after it had already been closed, is that incorrect?

They had the ticket agent tell Uchenna and Joyce that there was no flight.

From a recap of Season Seven......

Controversy has surrounded the final leg of the race: when Uchenna and Joyce arrived at the airport in San Juan, both Rob & Amber and Uchenna & Joyce were sold tickets for a flight leaving later than one whose gate was about to close. While Rob & Amber managed to get on this earlier departing flight, Uchenna and Joyce were shown by the gate as the boarding corridor between the gate exitway and airplane began to shut. After a commercial break, the boarding corridor reopened to the gate to pick up Uchenna and Joyce. No explanation was given as to why the gate reopened, which has led to widespread speculation about intervention by the production staff.

In the "Revisiting the Race" special feature on the Season 7 DVD, Uchenna, Rob, and Phil Keoghan deny the accusations of intervention by the production crew. Uchenna describes his experience with finding the same airline agent at the gate who had previously informed him that there was no earlier available flight. Rob describes Uchenna running around frantically trying to get onto the flight, which the final edited version of the show does not portray. Phil cites the fact that the decision to re-open the door rested solely with the pilot, and that intervention by the production crew would have resulted in someone leaking such information out.

Right, so that pretty much summarizes what I was saying.

Yes, except for getting the gate agent to lie to Uchenna.

That's what this is in reference to, although the writing doesn't describe the incident very well.

finding the same airline agent at the gate who had previously informed him that there was no earlier available flight

(Reality Blurred) Uchenna says gate agent “was compelled to call the pilot” because she’d lied to them.

Not that this will shut the conspiracy theorists up, but here is perhaps the final word on The Amazing Race 6’s plane-related controversy. Uchenna and Joyce talked to 96X’s BJ and Shannon (how many BJ’s work in radio? just curious) via phone. Their 17-minute interview is on the site, and provides more insight into the mystery of the American Airlines plane. First, Joyce reminds us that this exact same thing happened earlier this season, when a smaller plane “re-opened the doors to let Rob and Amber on.” So, it’s nothing new.

Second, Uchenna says that Rob “told the ticket agent not to tell us about that flight.” Then, when Uchenna and Joyce got to the gate, they found “that same ticket agent who had lied to us and said there was no flight. They didn’t air the fact that I yelled out, at the top of my lungs, ‘You lied to us.’ So she was the one that was compelled to call the pilot because, okay, there’s cameras everywhere, she’s standing there having just lied to me telling me that there was no flight.” Joyce adds, “And it looks like, you know, would American Airlines lie to the passengers?”

The Amazing Race is amazing in so many apsects, not the least of which is the production value of the show. TAR must be incredibly difficult to film, and then even more difficult to edit that film in a manner that allows the story to be told and understood. Most times the editing on the show is spot on, other times, such as apparently what happened during the ending of Season Seven, not so spot on.....

Oh well, now on to pulling for either the beauty queens or Terri and Ian.

Regards,

Axel.

I forget wether it was Oswald and Danny or Joe and Bill that kissed at the end of this last leg, but they joined my list of people to pull against.

I enjoy the quality of the production too..though it can be uneven. The season Uchenna and Joyce won was the best, I thought, with incredible aerial photography of Buenos Aires and the Pyramids of Giza from angles I'd never seen before.

I feel let down that Rob and Amber were eliminated.

Now I'll root for the Beauty Queens I guess. Ho-hum. I like Charla and Myrna too. Charla has the heart of a champion for sure.
