This was an attempt by the Bush administration to root out more entrenched liberal beaurocratic lifers in the government with the full intention of regaing the support of the conservative base on the illegal immigration issue and he allowed it to go on because he intended to pardon both men eventually. I don't buy it - too conspiratorial.

But if your theory is true, Bush better pardon these agents fast - because they will both be dead in prison soon. One was just beaten within an inch of his life.

Correction to my post 15.
The point of this article is that the agents may or may not have filed false reports about the incident.

These are the charges as posted...So get to my question...
The title of this article is...I can read. Wasted your breath. Why bother?
The point of this article is the shooting may or may not have been reported. In your opinion that is the point of the story.
As far as nothing having been reported, this goes to the heart of that matter...
According to the transcript, the pressure on Compean not to file a written report came from Richards, the senior supervisor on the field.
Richards was applying pressure on Compean not to report the assault, because that would have demanded paperwork. There is no doubt in my mind that a report wasn't filed because an injury to the agent was involved. At whose insistance, of both the firearms dicharge and the injury, was no report filed?
So now, how about answering my question? How are they guilty of the charges against them and not exonerated in light of all of this newy disclosed information just being given to the public?

So does President Bush for not pardoning them yet!

I'm aware of the attack, just not the extent of the damage inflicted.
So how do you know the severity of his injuries?
To: happinesswithoutpeace
This is probably why pilots never file UFO reports ... the gummint is sure to screw it up and ultimately destroy a good man.

He may be finding out all of the details at the same time we are. The wheels of government can move exceedingly so when it is so desired.

I don't buy it...
Needless to say I didn't buy the other speculation/proposition either. What sitting POTUS would hazard his political career over this?
I would be more apt to believe it was all done in an attempt to damage/discredit the administration. He isn't exactly sitting pretty on the illegal immigration issue as it is.

Oops...exceedingly so = exceedingly slow

"You forget the /sarcasm? (I would advise a "yes" response)"
No sarcasm in this case but thank you for your advice. Do you think its beyond the realm of possibility that govt people on the border are corrupt?

Pardon them and return them to their jobs, with back pay and compensation for their legal expenses.

How can a report that is never filed be filed falsely?

Not at all. I can easily find numerous news articles showing just that.
To: happinesswithoutpeace
The claim of not filing the reports was a hugely significant piece of evidence used to convict. They are entitled to a new trial, at the very least.

You got me there. Was there never a report filed?

(and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton has got some 'splainin' to do)
Per some posts in related threads, Sutton and AG Gonzales are friends.
If that is true, then it would appear Sutton is getting his cues from Washington.
FoxNews yesterday reported that there is another Border Agent currently under arrest for shooting into a vehicle filled with illegals. The BA reported that the vehicle driver tried to ram him. Three guesses who the prosecutor in this case is? No, not Mike Nifong. No, not Hamilton Burger.

This case is looking more heinous by the hour. Is there anything the prosecution is telling the truth regarding?
There's a good chance this will be on Rush today. Roger Hedgecock is filling in for Limbaugh and indicated on yesterday's local show that he'd be interviewing this reporter about the border patrol case. It'll probably be his main focus today.
