Hi J..Good luck on getting the diagnosis/treatment on the fall. I took a fall like that about 10 years ago. I caught my weight on my on ONE hand mostly the palm. It had multiple sprains & a few cracked small bones in the wrist area (metacarpals I think). Doc said they do not (or at least didn't then) do surgery on those tiny ones for many reasons. It took about 9 weeks for pain, swelling to subside but it is still my weather barometer & I am sure arthritis has found it's way there.
Appreciate the info you sent, forwarded to Mark & he was grateful for first hand input rather than just medical info. I also did a little Internet research & sent him the links.

Same here...
...tripped outside-(2 yrs ago)- and in trying to break the fall, landed on my left palm, thumb area.
Doctor says there's not much can be done....it healed, kinda sorta...but I can tell when it's going to rain, or especially when it's getting colder....
..such is life :^)
