YES! Twelve O'Clock High is the greatest, though I like it because Savage starts out looking down on the former commander because he identified too closely with his men, only to have Savage go way beyond that later on...;-))

Oh yes, you are right about Savage, and how far he went with his men, physically, and psychologically. I'm thinking again tho that was because he understood so well what they needed to produce the necessary results, and in the end, the discipline factor was what brought him back from the edge, too.MO In doing so he risked his own popularity & spirit.

I think this was one of those movies I watched for the first time late at night on a weekend when I was in h.s. What an impact it had on me!
