I have a dual G4 that I believe is approaching 8 years old running OS X Server and Kerio Mail Server. Only has 12 users on it but it runs better than the original OS 9. I used it to replace 4 Compaq Proliant servers. I will replace it with an XServe one day, but no need at this point.

But given that OS X can run well on a far weaker system than Vista, I guess that at least balances out. No, because I have dual-boot.... ;)

No, because I have dual-boot.... ;) ???

It depends upon your hardware config.
The biggest reason is that, from the benchmarks I've seen, Vista is optimized for Dual Core (or even hyperthreading) processors. I find that my Core 2 Duo machine is much snappier in Vista than in XP.

well... because of the Nvidia Nforce3 AGP issues(Nvidia not wanting to support Vista with an official AGP driver).. I have decided to get a Nvidia GeForce 6150(nForce 430) mobo... ;)
just got it today its rock solid at 250mhz FSB x11 and I could probably even go higher if i wanted to.(I'm thinking about going for 275mhz)
memory @ 250mhz(DDR500) 2-3-3-7 1T :D HTT 4x250(1000)
BTW, it's a Foxconn same people that make Apple motherboards... LOL
To: antiRepublicrat
btw, I'm using the onboard integrated video card (GeForce6150) I have 128MB of Ram dedicated to it, and I only have 1GB of system Ram so... currently I only have 896MB's of Ram and I'm currently running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit RTM without any problems... I have the system overclocked as stated above and have passed Orthos Stress Prime 2004(dual-core version) and SuperPI 32M...(only one instance, not enough ram for 2 instances) ;)
Plays DVD's good quality, pretty impressive for an integrated onboard video, I was pretty surprised.
not to bad for a Motherboard that only costed $66.99 and has features like this
Athlon 64 X2(I have a opteron 175 in here)/ Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64
onboard video (GeForce6150 128MB Vista Aero ready, good for office work and movies, NOT GAMES)
8Channel audio
4DIMM slots up to 4GB's RAM
PATA x4
SATA 3Gb's x4
SATA RAID 0/1/0+1/5 (hardware RAID not software RAID apple fanboys)
GB LAN
8xUSB2.0
2x1394a(I never use this) USB seems to work
product page

oh it also has a
PCIe x16 slot! ;) so... when you want to upgrade to that fancy DirectX10 PCIe video card... :)
also 3xPCI slots
To: Echo Talon
when you want to upgrade to that fancy DirectX10 PCIe video card Isn't that the one that John Carmack, the god of game programming, said there's no need for any time soon?
To: antiRepublicrat
Just so you don't think that i'm lying to you... here ya go... Notice, I have my 2.2GHZ Dual-Core Opteron Overclocked to 3GHZ... ;) AND I'm using the onboard video, look at the Cpu-z memory indicator thats why it says 896 and not 1024 because the onboard video is using 128MB of system ram... does your iMac get sub 30sec superpi's?
To: antiRepublicrat
Unless your iMac has a C2D faster than the E6700 you're out of luck... ;) I got this Opteron 175 OEM with aftermarket heatsink for a little less than $200
To: Echo Talon
We're not talking about flat-out performance, we're talking about what Vista can run on. Vista's minimum requirements are far greater than what OS X can run well on. Vista aimed to copy OS X, but it didn't do it very well.
To: antiRepublicrat
Vista aimed to copy OS X, but it didn't do it very well. Because Apple is too smart to publish all their source code as "free software", unlike your first love Linux.
To: antiRepublicrat

Ok, I got Cpu-Z fixed "sort-of" with 64-bit Vista... you reboot like you would for safe mode F8 and choose don't use digitally signed drivers... I know utilities do this also... Vista Manager or Tweak VI, not sure which one... anyhow heres the screen shot...
To: antiRepublicrat

you think she is stable? ;) I should raise it 1mhz to try and get less than 28minutes in 32M hehehe... BTW, my overclocked Athlon64 2.2GHZ(overclocked up to about 2.54GHZ or so) in WinXP Pro could NEVER break the 30minute barrier...

To: Golden Eagle
well, Mac uses the Intel C2D which runs SuperPI VERY well, BUT... you can't overclock a mac very easily "as far as i know"
To: Echo Talon
I wouldn't overclock a Mac, if I bought one it would be a Mac Mini and I wouldn't want to overheat the case. PC's offer more customization and choice, but Apple offers more style and sophistication.
To: Golden Eagle
Because Apple is too smart to publish all their source code as "free software", unlike your first love Linux. Been searching pretty far back, huh? Do you have a life aside from stalking me?
To: Golden Eagle; Echo Talon
Like usual, he's all over the place. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1432123/posts?page=46#46 Notice the date. Can you correlate that with anything? I know ET can.
To: Swordmaker
I like Microsoft. Linux is too lean and Macintosh feels like I'm in a tin can with a bunch of flaming homosexuals on mushrooms throwing pink flowers.
Microsoft feels robust, solid, and professional.
