The man who fathered kidnapped teen Shawn Hornbeck was a convicted sex offender who did three years in a Missouri prison on drug and sodomy charges, The Post has learned.
The late Walter Hornbeck was 60 when Shawn was born to him and his wife, Pamela Akers. He had little contact with his son, Akers said.
Akers kicked him out of the house when the boy was just 6 months old, and the couple divorced in 1992, about a year after Shawn was born.
Hornbeck was arrested in Washington County, near St. Louis, on Sept. 30, 1992, and charged with rape, although it's unclear who the victim was. Details of the case were not available, and most of the record has been sealed.

I wish they wouldn't state this stuff...I don't think Shawn needs more publicity, like this.
Great article. It is inexcuseable that some on FR called the Akers sickos, perverts and meth users.
And they are probably the ones that wouldn't left a finger to help anyone
I don't think the Mrs. Akers is ugly now. She simply shows years of stress. That is indeed a big change.
Craig Akera may also kind of look like Jim Varney in the first Bev. Hillbillies movie
Thank you. Very interesting. It goes to show the last 4 years have been hell for Pam Akers. I am so happy that she has her boy back. It must feel as though he was somebody that literally came back from the dead. How many times have we all wished we could spend just one more moment with someone. It thrills my heart to know that she has gotten her moment and many more to come. This family deserve some slack.
They didn't get a dime from Oprah. She doesn't pay for interviews.
who cares what they look like for pete sakes! It isn't what is on the outside that matters, it is their hearts and they hearts of gold!
Was it the Montel Williams' program?

I think various opinions are fine and dandy, the only thing I hate with all my heart and soul are people slamming the victims of crime, especially victims that are CHILDREN ......there is no excuse for that....
Lots of links to Sylvia Brown

That old hag Sylvia needs to stay out of people's lives.
Thanks for posting that - I was going to, too.
What makes me sick about this "revelation" is that there are probably lots of sheeple who won't bother to read the whole story or who will hear it whispered from someone else and will think it refers to Craig Akers. Mark my words.
I also noted in sleuthing that Shawn's half-brother Ted, whom he had never met before now, is the same age as Pam Akers.
There's also an older half-brother, maybe more. The older one is Jr. to the man in question. IOW, Pam had stepchildren her own age or older. That had to be hard, too.
Not to mention what this story implies about his sisters in the younger family. Bah on the NYP!
No doubt -- that is what was intended by the headline.
Totally irresponsible.
To some it's "politically incorrect" to utter a word of criticism against his parents, as vigilant as they've been in searching for him and helping others. Yet I find it puzzling that they would agree to such an interview.
Michael Devlin was caught red-handed. He belongs to one of the lowest forms of humanity on the earth.
I think the reason they put him on Oprah was to address the largest possible audience and be done with it. You know very well that, if they hadn't addressed the media, the naysayers would be claiming they're hiding something and there must be something to the theory that he ran away and/or chose to stay with Devlin. They can't win, no matter what they do. I think Oprah was the best choice because, not only does she reach the largest audience but because, as a sexual assault victim, she can empathize with Hornbeck. There are several other shows which would have paid the Akers big bucks to get exclusive rights to the story. Instead, they chose to go with Oprah and take NO money, because they were more concerned with getting the message out to as many people as possible. They were more concerned with the safety of other children, than with their own pocketbook. I applaud them.
