CHICAGO -- Pam Branka would often talk about the recent murder of a manager at a Burger King in suburban Chicago, but she never believed the same fate could befall her at the Burger King where she worked for 15 years in a small northeast Illinois community, her husband said.

The 46-year-old mother of one and a manager at the Burger King in Momence, about 50 miles south of Chicago, were found dead inside the fast-food restaurant on Saturday, Kankakee County Coroner Robert Gessner said. He identified the other victim as Paul Jones, 49, of Donovan.

This happened in a fairly rural area of Illinois. What can you say---my heart aches for the families these folks leave behind. One of two states without concealed carry of any type for the law abiding citizen and free reign for unchecked evil.

I feel for these people, but my first thought when I saw the headline (forgive me for this) was "Trans-fats strike again!"

What a sad, sad story here; I am amazed. . .though not totally, reasonably. . .that there is no protection available i.e. 'gun in the drawer' or something. ..how much would it cost to have full-time onsite Security? I hope they at least, have cameras 'on'; and the perps can be id'd immediately dealt with. . .

As for that; I guess this Mother IS now. . .at the 'up North' Burger King. . .in the sky. . .

Prayers for her and her family.

Apparent robbery? I don't know. Something doesn't seem right about this story.

Perhaps there is videotape.

I didn't think about trans fat, I thought about the killer diarrhea I picked up at a Burger King that tried to kill me.

Sorry about these employees, they weren't the ones who got me, that BK is in Oklahoma.

(never again, BK, never again)

Police are looking for these two as "persons of interest."

My wife got sick from a Wendys salad. This was several years ago. You could not get her near a Wendys now. People get sick from home cooking and from restaurant cooking. If we scratch every place off the list that some one got sick at, we may starve to death. :)

Didn't Illinois effectively destroy their death penalty? Too bad because it is needed.

One of two states without concealed carry of any type for the law abiding citizen and free reign for unchecked evil.

Even if this happened in a Concealed Carry state you can bet that the Burger King would have a policy of no employee may bring a fire arm to work policy.

Most employers do not want the liability of armed employees.

Unfortunately there has not been any civil liability lawsuit that I have seen against an employer that forbade employees in high risk positions to carry that subsequently were killed while forcibly unarmed.

Perhaps someday a truly outrageous case will come to light and that will be remedied but I won’t hold my breath. It would take Gun Owners of America or some other similar group to take such a case.

Too many - maybe most - employers would rather see a dead employee than to risk a lawsuit. It is especially true in what I consider to be "high risk" jobs like convenience store clerks or pizza delivery folks. If I were ever forced to accept a job like that, I'd carry anyway. It's annoying enough to have to comply with government intrusion on my 2nd Amendment rights without surrendering to some boss or corporate dweeb.
