The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good Morning.

Yay Estrogen on selling your house. A whole new chapter of life begins. Good luck to you!

Becky, good that the dentist trip was no too bad. Just take it easy and heal.

Beautiful day and I am going to head over to the fairgrounds. I like to go in the mornings. It is more like a carnival then a fair. Harness racing was cancelled this year. All they have in the evenings are the tractor pulls and demo derbies. All that loud stuff.

Maybe my pony would be good at harness racing... did they have a division for ponies? :~)

Good morning... ecurbh’s parents arrive today... Sometime this morning.

Oh, I feel pretty good, other then groggy...I’m not suppose to have any coffee, so after the pain meds thru the night....I think the no coffee thing was more for no hot stuff then the coffee...I’m going to have a small cup of cooled down coffee...I won’t be functioning if I don’t.

Yeah - I think it’s just the heat that might be bad.

Nothing wrong with cold coffee.. I’m having some of that here, because it’s warm already :~)

Good morning!

Congrats Estrogen -- hope things continue to go smoothly. Don't panic, they always find something in the home inspection, the inspector feels like he isn't doing his job if he doesn't. Just kick in the estimated cost of the repairs rather than doing it (the buyer'll always find something wrong with the repairs if you do it.)

What is it with dentists around FR? I was there yesterday myself, having two crowns put on. The temporaries were not easy to pull off (too good a fit!) and it HURT . . . but I didn't want to be numbed up because you can't feel the bite if you are. The permanent crowns are feeling fine this morning, jaw just a little sore but nothing a couple of Excedrin won't fix. Even went and rode yesterday, I was not happy when I got out to the barn, but after giving Miss Gracie a nice bath and riding for a couple of hours, amazingly I felt much better and even had a burger with the girls on the way home.

Well, I’m sorry you were there too:).

I’m hoping to ride Sat. at least. It’s raining hard today, and suppose too tomorrow also.

We did get the horse shod, but had to finish in the barn because the rain came.

It POURED here yesterday -- huge roiling jet black clouds, high winds, lotsa lightning and rain too thick to drive in. When we got out to the barn (my daughter and a friend of hers came too - she's looking for a trade-work-for-riding-lessons gig) the arena was a sea of mud. Everybody warmed up their horses in the hunt course field on the grass while our trainer jumped on her tractor and dragged the ring to try to move the mud around and dry it out. The ring actually drains pretty well, so once she dragged some of the sand into the low spots and spread the water around it dried out enough to ride in. After an hour or so we were able to jump, and even Gracie (who doesn't like mud) didn't mind. It is such a pleasure to ride that mare -- she was really tucked under and going forward and jumping like a dream . . . .

We desperately need the rain, but not all at once in bucket and tanker car loads like that. Saturday night and all day Sunday it rained gently and steadily, that's what we need, it gives it a chance to soak in and doesn't all shoot off into the streams with all the topsoil . . . .

If you could get it taped good why couldn’t a vet put a lock in and give IV piggy backs? That’s a lot of sticks. Cost might be prohibitive though.

They wer intramuscular injections, not IV so could not put a lock in. It was a lot more expensive to do the shots but he needed those antibiotics and he was not getting them orally.

I know but if a vet ordered a med by IV, providing the cost wasn’t too much, if you could store the bags and give them through a needle lock, it would save the horse a lot of sticks. I don’t know if they are practical but It looked like Barbaro had one though. Just curious. I’ll have to ask my vet the next time I see him.

I got numbed up on 3 sides the last time. It kind of worried me. On the way home I could not swallow without drpping my head and turning it extremely to the left, and then it was with difficulty. I was concerned about nerve damage but it wore off.

WOO HOO!!! Congrats on the sale and on everything working out! I’ll bet you can barely contain yourself. This’ll be a really exciting change for y’all and I know you’re just going to love it. Living at the cabin for a while will be fun too. You’ll get to ride every day if you want to. I’m jealous!

I’m glad to hear that the dentist went ok and the horse got shod. Hopefully you’ll be all set to ride in a day or two.
