The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

This one looks like something out of Mordor doesn't it?

That is cool looking!

Good Morning.

It looks like we finally will get some rain. Sure is dark outside. Hopefully, it will cool off some.

Yeah, when it finally decided to rain around here it seems to want to keep on doing it. It’s rained pretty much every day since last Thursday. But hey, I ain’t complaining. We STILL need lots more to catch up. I’m afraid it’s a little too late for most of the corn, but maybe the cotton will be salvageable and maybe we’ll get another cutting or two of hay before Fall. That will sure help me out.

I woke to thunder and rain this morning too and it is still raining. I am glad to get the rain. Now the hay will grow! They have lifted the burn ban for most of Alabama now.

Lee got extra wall mats up in one side of TheNewHorseTrailer last night before it came a monsoon, complete with tornado warnings. Hopefully we’ll get the rest up this evening and I’ll be all set for the weekend. I just can’t imagine what they were thinking when they didn’t put wall mats up on the front manger wall, the inside of the walk-thru door and on the insides of the back door. That’s where you need them the MOST! All the ones that I saw at the horse camp before I bought mine were all beat up in those places. Horses PAW. It’s just a fact that you’d better plan for.

I know what you mean, when I look at ours I wonder the same thing. We even thought that when/if we get a new trailer of having that spray on liner stuff they put in truck beds put in the manger area or maybe the manger and walls.

Yeah, I may take mine and have that and the inside of the wheel wells done. I have no idea how much that might cost though. I'm fixing to take the big white 3h trailer and get an estimate on having it sandblasted and painted. I liked to have never found a place that would do it though, and most of the ones who do want an arm and a leg for it. My best over-the-phone ball-park guestimate was $900 to sandblast, prime and paint, inside and out. I didn't think that was too bad. Of course all that may change when I haul it over there for an official estimate.

Oh, about the Rhino-liner stuff, I wouldn’t want to use that on any place where they might paw or kick. It’s not thick enough to dissipate the shock, so even though it would protect it from scratching, the metal would still dent. The mats I put up were cut from an old rubber bed liner that Shirley gave me and are about a quarter of an inch thick. I put them up with pop-rivets that have a 5/8 inch head, and those were a trick to find in themselves. I had to go to two specialty fastener places before I found one that would sell me less than a box of 500. I only needed about 56, but I bought 75 just in case.

I would give it at once then but in at least 2 injections.

If you could get it taped good why couldn’t a vet put a lock in and give IV piggy backs? That’s a lot of sticks. Cost might be prohibitive though.

That is some lion !!!!!!

WE SOLD OUR HOUSE.$&((%%$#$#%%^
Only on the market three weeks and it sold for close to asking price. All I have to do now is cross my fingers that the home inspection comes in allright (they are doing that tomorrow)
We have to be out by Aug.24 so we’ll go to the cabin for a month before our Aiken house is done. I am so excited, this is like a whole new life for us. Waylon even has a place to board before our barn is done. God must have been answering my prayers.
all is good

Congratulations estrogen:) Sounds like it was all meant to be!

Good evening everyone:)...I survived the dentist. He gave me happy gas:), I’ve never had it before. Wonderful stuff:)

A little tender and sore right now, and rather dopey from drugs, but a whole day spent snoozing in a recliner is not a bad way to spend a day once in a while:)

Hair, good luck with your company,

Becky

When I had the happy gas, I had the weirdest expression on my face because I was trying not to smile. I didn’t want them to think I was a druggie and liked it. ;~)

Hope the tenderness is better by morning.

The parents may arrive here as early as mid-morning tomorrow, but I think we’re ready :~)

I’ve never tried it either. The last time i went to the dennist they wanted to do conscious sedation. I wanted to know what was going on. I’ve heard stories... I didn’t want to do or say anything embarressing:’) Just numb me up. I think it hurt the dennist worse than me. I don’t know how many times he asked if I was doing ok, and I had to assure him I was fine.
