The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Alexis has called and they are fine - no explanation yet why they are so late.

Thanks, I’m just tickled with it. I think it’s neat. And there’s a steady highway of ants going by right in front of it back and forth... so the new frogs will have plenty to eat when they come out.

Yes, I talk to Michele (rockyridge) quite a bit, email and PM. She sent me a PM frantic because they were so late and she couldn’t reach them. She expected them home between 3-5 her time.

Good Morning.

Going to be another pretty day. It was pretty cool and windy yesterday at the show. Low 70's, but sunny. Alison did well. Placed in all her classes. She tied for Hi-point, but the other girl had more firsts, so she won it. Thats ok, we don't want her winning and expecting to win at every show.

Hair, that is really cool what you did with the fish tank. I get so tired of the one here also. They can be a pain to take care of.

Morning all!

WE GOT RAIN! 3 days in a row a good afternoon shower followed by a slow drizzle for about 30 minutes. We actually have standing water in the pasture now. Frog and I had a good ride Saturday, she has great pictures. We finished up just in time before the rain hit.

Great pics MT! But I’m sorry to hear about all the mishaps. I’m sure Tammy’s pride is a bit bruised, but at least nobody got seriously hurt. And trailer loading trouble are about the most aggravating things imaginable. Bodie sure looks good, even if he is bad sometimes. And Jody’s really pretty too. You should have no trouble selling him if you decide to do that.

I’m sorry to hear that the festival was a flop because of the rain. But it looks like the kids had fun anyways. Thanks for the pics!

Good Morning everyone! Happy Monday!

I had a fantastic weekend, with another great lesson, and an hour and a half trail ride on Sunday. The weather was gorgeous. Low 70s sunny and breezy. If the weather holds out for the 4th, which it might not, we're all going on another trail ride. There's a horse show on Sunday, I'll be going to watch and take pictures.

Wow, sounds like a great horsey weekend. It’s great that you’re finally getting to ride a whole lot more. You went a long dry spell there where you didn’t get to ride much at all.

Your weather does sound great. It was 95* in the shade on our ride Saturday. Hot enough that when we stopped at a creek under the bridge I bailed off in the water. Of course somebody’s horse then promptly crapped in the water so I had to bail right back out pretty quickly or face the prospect of riding all the way back home smelling like a manure pile. Not a pleasant thought. ;o) But it did feel good.

I did, and it was pure torture. :-) Her rates are going up in Nov. which has me a little worried, but the way I figure, if I can't enjoy my money a little bit what's the point in working? It's the one luxury I allow myself, come heck or high water. We had a couple of days of 90 degree weather, and it wasn't fun. In New England, you can go from roasting to freezing in the space of a day. Doesn't matter what time of year it is.

The horse show should be um. Interesting. My old hunter/jumper trainer has crossed over into the dressage world with a couple of her kids, and wouldn't you know, does the same schooling show series that we do. Both her and her kids are doing the Training Level I and II tests, and IMO you shouldn't be teaching kids that you are at the same level as when you're doing low level work. (Has nothing to do with the horse's level in this case) I would love to go into the the ring and soundly kick their butts! :-) On the big fancy warmblood. :-p I have lots of issues with these people, the big one being that they were very elitest and your social status in the barn determined what horse you were allowed to ride. The second being that that trainer told me that I would never be a good rider, but I've become quite good under my current trainer.

Sounds like a great weekend. It’s in the high 90’s here, fixing to hit the 100’s this week. Looking forward to more pictures.

Here's the pics from Saturday's trailride. We went to the rails-to-trails. There were 14 riders, all gaited, and we had a ball...

My friend Elizabeth on Grace, one of my horses. Just look at that smile! Now there's a happy woman...

BladeRider and Blade. (You coulda smiled a little bit girl!)

The two cut-ups of the bunch, Waterhead and Stansell (and no I don't know why they call him that). These two never quit ragging each other. They're mouthing something back and forth all the time. The one on the right(Stansell) rides the gaited mule that y'all have seen in some of my pictures. They're a hoot let me tell you. There's never a dull moment with them around. I told them they looked awful sweet and they had to tell me right quick that "we ain't gay or nuthin, we're just playin" LOL!!

BladeRider and Elizabeth approaching one of the new bridges. Y'all have seen the two bridges on the north end, but they've extended the trail 3 or 4 more miles to the south and are building two new ones down there...

Me and Bob coming through...

BladeRider, and a different view...

The 2nd new bridge, not quite finished yet...

A bit of a rock pile to get down the embankment, but everybody negotiated it quite well...

The support beams for the 2nd bridge. I don't believe there's going to be a problem with holding the horses up! ;o) ..

Waterhead and Stansell from the front view. They don't quite as sweet from this angle! ;o) ..

Most of the whole crowd at our lunch break. We were back at the depot and under the porch where there was some SHADE!

After lunch we rode the north end as far as the covered bridge, which is about 3 miles one way, but I was about camera-ed out by then. I think somebody took a picture of my impromptu swim, but I'll probably never see it. That's alright though, I'll remember it.

I just HATE people like that! The only thing they're good for is motivating other people to do better so they can rub their noses in it when ever they beat them, and I sure hope you do that, REAL soon!

I think it’s great that you have the opportunity to ride pretty great horses. - I do hope you get the opportunity to kick the former trainer’s butt, and her students :~)
