The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Not to change the subject or anything, but I just found this link over on the Gaited horse forum and it is SO cool. It’s apparently either a tribute or an advertisement for this bullfighting horse named Merlin. He is absolutely wicked fast and totally AWSOME to watch, although you might not want to watch it if you can’t stand bull fighting.

Oooh - I'm a little queezy about bullfighting... is it bad?

Here's a final update... for today, on the mole issue. I'll check out that stuff. I'm thinking of calling a mole removal guy and asking him how much?

Well, we've been out playing with it... we didn't make a sink-hole, I almost wish we would have! At least I'd know where all the water went. It ran from around 10 till almost 2, and was showing no sign of slowing down.

I didn't like the look of those wood snags at all for horses getting feet caught in them... so we cut them away, at least...

I don't know what we learned.

We gave up and filled it in... for now.

...wondering if you were filling up your septic tank or field lines with hose water...

Ah - I wish! Because the drain field is failing, and it'd be super if I could connect it up to this apparently bottomless hole ;~).

The bullfight video wasn't all that bad to me. It was basically this guy basically doing the Picador, bullfighting thing on horseback and staying JUST in front of the bull's horns, at full blast. Sideways, backwards, circling, the whole nine yards. It was amazing how fast that horse could spin and travel sideways. He wasn't even using reins most of the time, and he'd reach down and pet the bull on the head as they were running sideways. It was a gorgeous Palomino horse too.

With the mole hole, I guess you learned that you could run water (and money) into a hole in the ground indefinately. ;o)

I don't know if it's helping me or not. But I'm going to let it run all day...

The problem with trying to drown the critters is that when they make their tunnels they will make false tunnels that go up so they can escape water, rain or hose.

They would be fining you $250 here in Alabama for excessive water usage! LOL. We are in stage 4 drought.

Pippin discovers that the monster is tethered, and therefore ~tauntable~

Too funny, my cat taunts my dogs whenever possible. Fun to watch.

We’re not in a drought. Nor does it cost anything... really... we pay a flat fee for well maintenance to the store. Water, we’ve got lots of... Want me to send you some? How much hose would we need?

It’s probably ran right back to the well from whence it came :~D

That is a remarkable video, we watched it. I don’t like bullfighting, but it does look like that horse and his rider, put on a heck of a show. They’re both great.

It was like watching a great cutting horse, only the horse REALLY had a reason to move.

Yeah, my old English Setter did too. She’d sit out there with me when I was planting flowers and just wait for me to dig one up. SLURP...down the hatch it went.

At least she waited for you to dig them up, my dog yard looks like it was hit by land mines!
