I got to looking, and the one you’ve got looks a lot like a Brenda Imus Comfort Gait bit. Check it out...

Good Morning.

Worked Bodie yesterday and I don't know if I am going to be able to deal with his attitude. He is just to concerned about where his "girls" are.

Beautiful day again.

I checked out that website a little more and they have a forum over there too. I’ll have to go lurk over there some and see what they’re talking about. Just from a quick look, a lot of it had to do with barefoot issues so that might be interesting to watch.

I’ve got the farrier coming this afternoon to shoe Bob and Hope and I’m going to have to quiz him some because the last time he shoed Hope, she was just real trotty the next time I rode her. She wasn’t actually trotting, but her gait wasn’t even and it was choppy and it’s never been like that before. The only thing I can think of that might have been a contributing factor is that he put 2 new shoes on her back feet and just reset the ones on the front, so the back shoes would’ve been heaver than the ones on the front, although I wouldn’t think that the difference would be enough to matter. I’ll just have to see what he says. I’m going to have him put borium on her shoes this time too. It just makes it easier for me to exercise her during the week on the road at home. It’s just too dangerous to ride on pavement without it. Especially if you’ve got a spooky young horse.

Good morning :~)

I’d say if you only work him occasionally, And he’s with them all the time otherwise, you might have to just work him within sight of the girls. I’m sure I’d have similar issues with Bay at this point, but I always ride him with Cyn along, so I get around it.

But if you really wanted to work him on it all the time, I think Becky would say pull him out and put him in a paddock by himself, and at least take him and let him stand tied by himself a couple hours every day.

I’m with you on pavement... at our trailheads, the most nervous time for me is the walk across the parking lot to the trailhead. Particularly when there’s a lot of activity there to spook about, even for an old A-Rab horse ;~)

I always had a problem with riding my old gelding Tennessee at home for that very reason. At the time I just had him and one mare, Truly, and when I rode either one of them, they were both so tore up about being separated that it was almost more trouble than it was worth because of all the screaming and fence running. Now if I could get far enough away that they couldn’t see and hear each other then it was better, but he always had his mind more on getting back to the barn than on what I was telling him to do. And I realize that that is a training issue, and I guess I wimped out and just didn’t ride much at home because of it. It was just so much easier to go somewhere else where you didn’t have that problem. So I’m not much help am I?! ;o)

I have the same problem at my place, plus I really don't have much time during the week to ride so it is easier to trailer somewhere and have a peaceful ride.

I don’t have that problem where I am now though. Once I get down the driveway and about 50 yards down the road past the pigs I’m out of earshot. Then it’s pretty smooth sailing for about a mile. No (bad) dogs and not much traffic and there’s a decent hill on it to add a little more work to the workout. A 2-mile, 30 minute ride 2 or 3 times a week is better than nothing.

The problem is, I don’t really “feel” like training a horse again. He had two months of it and granted, I don’t work him as much as I should, as he is still pretty green. He gets tied in the stall and by the trailer, for his patience training at numerous times. He does fine with other horses, so maybe it’s just me and what I expect of him.

I understand, believe me. Bodie being green makes it a little worse, but I think most anyone will become herdbound if they’re in the pasture all the time and only occasionally worked... Look at Kat over at Bob’s. I know that horse is as broke as they come, but she’s been with all those horses for six months and hasn’t been worked, and when I tried to ride her away cold turkey, she pitched a fit. I think it’s just horses being horses.

I’d just work him within his comfort zone and start increasing the time distance apart as you can. If one of them was riding with you, he’d probably not be a problem, and it’s safer for you to have someone there anyway. Win win?

Good morning:)

Still looks like we could get rain today...so I’ve decided to CLEAN house. I’m not the best housekeeper in the world, but I have a limit on how bad I’ll let it get:). Once in awhile I just have to stop everything else (IOW’s horse stuff:) and concentrate on my house, today is the day, so that if the weather ever dries up, I can ride with a clear conscience:)

Anyway, boy do I get the “I don’t feel like training”. Unfortunately, especially with a green one, it seems like you just can’t not train. As Hair said, IMO, the easiest way to fix the problem would be put him in a run by himself. It really does help, IMO.

I’d ask myself, how often do you really plan on riding by yourself? If it’s not really an issue, I wouldn’t worry about it as long as you get along with him when riding with others. How does he do riding with other horses that are not his buddies?

Becky

Well, unless you ride by yourself a lot, I wouldn’t worry about it, as long as he’s manageable the rest of the time.

I think it’s just horses being horses.

Exactly, they are after all herd animals. And since they are animals they are never, IMO, no matter how broke, going to be push button. There is always something we either have to work on or around. It's the nature of the beast. If it's something you can work around that working around won't cause a problem later down the road for you, then work around it. If you are not really ever going to ride by yourself, don't worry about the fact that you can't because the horse has a problem with it.

We’re putting off cleaning at this point, because in a week or two, we’re going to have to do the “stop everything and deep clean for company” thing. His parents are visiting middle of July.

We’re going to empty the rooms and get carpet cleaner and the whole bit. We need to do that.

You’ll get up enough dog and cat hair out of the carpet to make another dog or cat. With my bare floors, I get huge hair bunnies rolling across the floor in no time. Then they get hung up in the cobwebs under the furniture and in the corners. I ignore them as long as I can, since we rarely have company, but I reached my last straw this morning around 6am and had to vacuum the den before I went to work. I’m a horrible house keeper. The one thing that I insist on keeping un-cluttered is the counter top and bar in the kitchen, and the tops of furniture, at least in the den. I used to try to keep the bedroom dresser and chest-of-drawers cleaned off, but Lee would re-pile it as quick as I cleared it off, so I gave up on that room. I just close the door. The same for the computer room. You can barely get in there. I can’t stand it. Dust and hair I can live with. Clutter makes me crazy.

I’m afraid at this point if I shampooed my carpet it was just fall apart entirely, we need new flooring so bad.

Since we have the building downtown we seldom get company out here anymore. Town is easier. But that does mean it’s easy to put off cleaning. I always liked having company because it helped me keep up with the house. Now I don’t even have that inspiration.

That will be nice having his parents come:) It’s been since you went there that he’s seen them right? How long are they staying?

I used to have a ‘clean desk’ fetish... I wouldn’t particularly care about anything else as long as my desk was clean. But even it’s cluttered right now. It’s the first thing I clean when I start the tidying process.
