The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I noticed that you’ve put Bay back in his Kimberwicke. How is he doing with it? I’m supposed to go to the barn this week before the weekend when I normally go, but dangit I’m so tired, and it’s only Tuesday. I’ll probably go Wednesday... or maybe Thursday...

...NO WAY! You are not suppose to get sore with those gaiters! lol

Hey, those gaiters don't get enough exercise either and are fat little buggers! When you haven't ridden in a while they leave ya walking like a cowboy when you get off of 'em. Plus, I spend all week slouching here in my office chair in a semi-reclining position so I'm not used to sitting up that straight for that length of time and my back gets to cramping up sometimes right between the shoulder blades. Office jobs are a killer!

He’s good in the kimberwicke. I thought I’d ride in that for awhile. I still like the hackamore for sloppin’ around, and so they can eat when we take breaks at grassy places, but I thought we could use some culture and collection for a change. :~)

I feel it in my knees usually... We were a little groany when we got off at the end.

We’re going to try to get in the habit of going a lot more often again, but it’ll be a little bit hard to do... with his folks coming next month, and the preparations for that :~)

Oh COOL! They may not be big, but they sure are pretty. I love to hear waterfalls. They sound so soothing. I'd love to have one right outside my window.

I know whatcha mean about hardly ever walking to see something. There's this huge beech tree out in the Forest that's supposed to be the largest one of it's kind in the state, and it's not too far off of one of the horse trails we ride all the time, but I've never seen it because we'd have to tie the horses somewhere and hike a pretty good piece down into a cove to see it. I was always afraid to leave the horses alone for that long for fear that they'd either a.) get loose and leave my butt out there to walk home, or b.) somebody would mess with them or hurt them while we were gone. We could ride down there, but you're not supposed to and will get fined if they catch you, and it's a fairly popular hiking destination so your chances of being seen would be fairly high, at least on a weekend. Also I think the trail is kinda steep and rocky so you'd have to be really careful. Lots of people use that horse tail to hike in to see the tree, but it's too dang far from the trailhead for me. It's 4 or 5 miles, so it's not like I couldn't do it, I just don't want to. Is that pitiful or what?!

I used to have trouble with eye drops and ointments. It may not be best as for as infection control but beats poking a antzy horse so I have washed my hands and dropped big drops on my finger and touched my wet finger to the lower lid . It works for me.

Heh, company coming is the only time my house gets cleaned. And it’s usually a monumental task when it finally happens.

Yes, that was Alison. And thanks! My daughter does the catalog, web page and ads for the company. She uses our horses, dogs, the kid etc. for models.

Too bad someone had to snatch your supplies.

That’s the way I’ve had the best luck too... it’s such a goopy ointment. It’s not like a liquid even, it’s thick.

It’s been a good three years :~)

Some of it seems a long time ago... We didn’t have Cyn then, lots was different, some new friends have come and others have gone, but some of it seems like yesterday :~)

Yeah, I saw pictures of Ruthy back then. Do you ever hear from her, or is that just a dog that’s best to let lay?

That’s good. I’ve been married almost 37 years. Most of it has been good, and most of the bad times have been over stupid stuff. Just have to make peace before the sun goes down:’)

It’s sad that had to happen... my maid of honor too...

It usually is stupid stuff in hindsight.

Ecurbh and I still never fight. We grumble and get grouchy once in awhile, but we get along pretty well together.

Hey listen,
I have a 12 oclock appointment with an administrator, to present my program. I’m not comfortable with marketing and socializing over lunch. I would appreciate you believers saying a prayer for me.
