The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It’s hot but not too hot. I’m doing it in sections and then coming in to cool off. The mosquitoes are too bad later on. I'm trying to get up to walking 5 miles a day and mowing every day this summer. I want to drop 20 pds by Sept. I have 8 more to go.

You all are so energetic today. I napped for 2hours!! on the couch and woke up with a headache. I think both my needing a nap and the headache were from not having enough coffee this morning. I was out of milk and I can’t hardly drink it without. I’ve had a few cups now and feel so much better:) Except I’m sweating like a pig. It’s very humid here today. It’s nice outside then here in the house tho, so I’m going to go sit out there. Still hoping to get the energy up to ride a bit this evening.

I was struck by how dark those deer are... Most of ours are a light buckskin color... those are almost as Bay as my horse. (makes note... Paint orange X on Bay’s butt for riding during deer season ;~D)

We're about half done and taking a break for lunch :~)

I mowed around these wild daisies :~)

Cyn appears to have a pony growing out of her hip... If it keeps growing I guess we'll need to have it looked at ;~)

Well poo. Our mower may be broken... again. Didn’t get very far, it ran out of gas and then we couldn’t start it again. Gave up for now, let it cool off and think.

LOL...funny looking picture:)

i was going to ride, but it’s thundering now, so riding is on hold for a bit, probably till tomorrow.

Your wild daisy’s look like the ones that are blooming in my garden without all the foliage. They are so pretty. I even took a picture, but my hosting site is having trouble. The last two days, I haven’t been able to get pictures to load. I had some yesterday I wanted to show you.

Mower break downs are frustrating. The battery on mine is shot. I’ve been starting it by jumping it with my truck. Well I went over a pile of dirt in the pasture and it died, and I can’t get it started. I can’t take the truck out there, too muddy, I can’t push it that far, it’s uphill...so it’s been sitting out in the pasture for the last 3-4 days. I’m going to have to go pull the battery and just go get a new one.

Your pasture looks pretty good tho.

Ooh - you guys sure are getting a lot of rain... that’s unusual isn’t it? And the south is so dry, and I picture them getting a lot of rain.

It's rained everyday for the last week. Thurs. night it rained so much the big creek that I've shown you' all pictures of before went out of it's banks.

Anyway, I tried loading some pictures on Snapfish, and two of them loaded and then for some reason the internet disconnected, so I'll have to do the others again, but for now here's the two that loaded. Butterflies on my echinasea .

Thanks:) I've heard that they attract butterflies, I've been surprised by how much they do...there is always at least one sitting on them.

Did you get your mower going?

I haven’t tried again... I bathed, I’m clean now, I’ve lost interest in mowing :~)

Here's another picture I tried 3 times yesterday to show you. I had Rocky in the little pasture out back that you can see out the sliding door. He was scratching his butt on this tree, kept coming back to it several times. He then backed up to the shepherds hook leaning on the tree (it was in the ground when he was doing it). He had it between his checks:), and was backing up. Of course it was bending over and he just kept going and was in danger of really doing some damage to himself when he reached the hook part. I had to jump out the window and chase him off it, then pull it out of the ground and move it. It was funny when he was scratching on the tree, he'd go back and forth across his butt, then lean his hip on it and just stand there leaning on the tree, that's what he is doing in the picture.

Guess who showed up this evening:)

I heard a lot of chirping and fussing, and went out there and there they all were. Maybe the rain???? I haven't noticed them other evenings coming home, since about the third day they left.

They all came back home huh! Neat..

Yikes... I can only imagine the predicament Rocky could have gotten into with that Shepherd’s hook ;~)

Terrific pictures :~)

Good Morning.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We went to a horse show yesterday that was inside. Beautiful place. Up your way Estrogen. Blue Lakes farm. Alison and Amy both showed and did well. Alison tied for Hi-point 10 and under Walk-Trot. Very hot and humid.

Hair, I love the pictures of the deer. They get dark like that in this area also.

Becky, Bodie rubs like that too and he does it so much, his butt get sore.

cjshapi, how did the horse show go?

Thanks, we are proud of her. In trail she had to open a gate and go out of the arena. Good thing she had practiced at home. She did it perfect and won that class.

I am going to the tack shop where my daughter works and pick up some things for trail riding/camping. My list is ready. A lot of stuff I still have, but is old and worn.

Have fun on the trail ride. It is going to be close to 90 today!

Wow Becky, those are some of the best butterfly pictures I’ve seen that weren’t professionally done. Gorgeous!
