The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL:)

Good morning. Slow start to the day here today. I just let Harley out in the yard to graze. I think it’s going to be awhile before we get to town to do our Sun. errands. Mack is still asleep:)

I think is going to be warm and humid again, and rain this afternoon.

How’s Bay doing? Got his meds yet?

We did get his meds Thursday, and I’ve had him on a loading dose ever since. I think he’s probably fine, haven’t worked him, we’ve been doing other things. I just discussed it with my husband, when we’re actually going to go riding, and we decided on tomorrow :~)

Short ride, anyhow... since I think it’s been a month!

I’ll probably lunge Bay a little later... to make sure he’s good.

The weather’s been blustery here, and still pretty cool.

Oh, well good:). I was wondering how long it takes for the meds to kick in.

I can’t believe how cold it still is there. We are finally getting a new AC put in next week. It really hasn’t been bad without it yet, but it will be good to know it’s there when we do need it.

I’m hoping to ride at least a little bit today, for sure tomorrow. I finally broke down and went and bought the Mylar Bit I’ve been wanting for a year, and he’s taking the change really well. He was just really getting behind the other one way to much and too often. That has all stopped now. Two steps forward, one back with horses, huh:).

I don’t NEED people to think/say my horse is pretty anymore...LOL

But it's still nice to hear! :-)

Ah - show us the new bit!

Last time we rode here at home I actually rode Bay in his snaffle kimberwick. It’s been awhile since he’s had that in. I’ve noticed after about a year now of riding him pretty lax and loose in the hackamore, his head has gotten lower and lower... he’s becoming a western horse ;~) I think I’m going to ride in the kimberwick again for awhile, and pick him back up... I like having his neck in front of me.

LOL...you know lately from some of your posts, riding Kat, riding in a western saddle, and now the low head....I don’t think you’re going to enjoy riding Harley when you come:)...I may have to find you a different horse:)

Heh... Oh I’ll be fine! I’m looking forward to it. I just have to readjust!

The new bit is pretty nice. It’s designed, something about the mouth piece being tilted someway to keep them from getting behind the bit, but keep them vertical, not really raise their heads. I like these bits because they swivel everyway then can so gives lots of flexibility. And there are no joints that can pinch the corners of their mouth or tongue. The joint is designed differently. Gives a lot of tongue relief too. The bit I have is supposes to be for level 2 horses. Not a finished horse, but not a beginner.

If he wasn’t so darn hard to saddle fit I’d get an English saddle for you:)

Heh... Well, if it fit him, I could just bring mine, but it is same as yours was.

I’m in a rut. I’ve realized that with riding Kat. I should ride some other types of horses once in awhile, or I’m never going to be comfortable finding another one after Bay.

Well in all fairness, SL had on her “who are these people” face and Okie was showing off for his fans.

Well, if you can get your saddle on the plane and it’s not to much trouble bring it. It would probably work on Rowdy. I had planned on riding Rowdy, but maybe you’d be more comfortable on him. We can take turns anyway.

Oh, and I’ve always thought that you needed to get another horse now while Bay is still doing so well. I think that would make the transition easier.

Here's a grab bag of miscellaneous pictures from the last several days...

First, some does near the beach house... More curious than cautious about me and my camera :~)

And while I'm still not impressed with the impatiens by the front walk (I don't think it helps that animals keep trodding on them) These out by the big tree in the yard are starting to look pretty. :~)

And finally... hubby napping with the monster... He's really a nice content, easy going puppy. Hubby wants one now ;~)

It might indeed... but we have an issue of space. Another stall could be opened up, but the current setup would be pretty crowded.

Nothing special. Running up to the fence to Eddie. Standing proud, stepping high. Just “I’m Okie, you may pet me” stuff.

I’m really hot. Been mowing. I'm afraid I didn't set a good Father's Day mood today. I got into a “discussion” with DH this morning about telling me what to do and not being a team player”. All about a bag of concrete. Tell me I can't do something...I don't think so.

Oh dear...

I’ve been mowing pasture, but it’s not hot here... rather cool and cloudy.
