The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

How are we going to get a follow up on the buried car?

The vault was full of water . . . they're worried about rust.

You certainly didn’t buy on impulse. Most of my dogs have been impulse dogs... not even my impulse... they just showed up.

Logan was the only one I actually bought.

If they just show up, you’re doing a mitzvah.

I found another couple of links while I was digging around in there. Apparently the “Cranking Ceremony” is tonight and will be covered live on TV...

I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance that the thing will crank. The engine’s probably rusted into a solid chunk of iron.

I heard about it yesterday. Apparently they have already looked inside the vault and what they saw is not good. 2-3 ft. of water in the bottom of the vault and the tarp wrapping the car is covered in rust. From what I’ve heard they are not expecting it to be in pristine condition:)

It looked like there was going to be unveiling ceremony tonight at 7pm CDT and a live streaming link too. I’ll have to check in later on tonight to see how the car actually cleaned up. I’m sure that all the papers and stuff inside of it is ruined.

Before

After

Sure was a lot of work. Alison helped me move dirt yesterday and she helped me plant flowers today. About 10 loads of dirt were moved to lower parts of the lawn, that get really wet after a rain. The rocks could use some adjusting.

Then I gathered up my tack and gave them a good cleaning and put in trailer. There are a few items I will need to buy.

Good Morning.

Thanks Duchess, for the compliment and the invite, but I really have so much more to do in the back. It is so nice to have the time to do this all and the weather has been perfect.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Thank you. Sure am glad to be done with it. Those storms of yours are suppose to hit here tomorrow evening and be here pretty much for all of next week. That figures, when I get my work done and want to do some riding.

Hello everyone!

Busy horse filled day today. Rode Levi again, did two lessons for my trainer, (one was a tack up lesson, the other a leadline lesson) then we packed up the pony in the trailer and took him to a pony party. Holy crud all the kids! I don't know where they all kept coming from, it must have been pods or something! Then I went to a cookout and then came home and weeded the flower beds. I'm exhausted.

Have a question for anyone out on the forum who can answer it. (Even lurkers!) :-) So I've been progressing more and more with Levi as a rider. Not with Levi as a horse. Levi knows more than I do. But I've been working on getting that pretty dressage frame with the arched neck, etc. I've worked on the rest of his body, getting him round and under me, and balanced....that foundation is there, (more or less... it's hard! There's a lot of horse to move around!) The head is just the icing on the cake. Today I did it for the first time, and the way that my trainer had me do it, was to make sure that I was a) driving him onto my outside rein with my inside leg, and making him soften his mouth and give to me, being on the bit, etc. That was the first step. But then, my reins were much much shorter, and while using the outside rein as a wall, I wiggled the inside rein to make him bring his nose further into his chest. He wasn't over bent in any way... there's a lot of neck to bend with! But I felt more or less that I was holding him there, which doesn't feel right to me, and of course, this is just my first steps into doing this... my trainer said that eventually I will learn to relax for a few strides, then ask again, then relax etc. Any input to this? I would post this on the Horse.com forum, but I don't want any snooty people posting their two cents in, and telling me that I'm doing Rolkur.

Sounds like a very fun filled day for you! Sorry, I can’t help you on the dressage part. Any kind of bending we do, is just for a very short time.

Beaker I think it sounds OK what you did... you will feel him on the reins, but you both should lighten when you get the feel of each other...

Hello everyone! We’re back from the beach house... pretty tired.. did yard work all day.

Hey ,
I had a nice day too. My Dad and Sister and her DH visited. We went and ate BBQ for lunch and went to the flea market. He bought 38 pds of jalapenos:’) I showed them my school and we also went out to the horses. My sister liked Sarah Lee but thought Okie was gorgeous. We visited awhile and then went to the Island for fish tonight. It was fun.

Cindy, that does sound like a nice day:). Your comment about your sister liking SL but thinking Okie is gorgeous reminds me of when Jenny when still home and we were hauling Rocky and Belle lots of places....I was so proud of her, I just loved when anyone commented about her. But, the only time anyone noticed her was when I hauled her by herself. If Rocky was with us no one noticed her:)...I remember that causing me to feel pulled in two directions. I loved Rocky too, but it pi$$ed me off that he out showed her so very very much. Then one time I took Rocky and Rusty together to the arena, and I couldn’t believe it but I got comments about Rusty more then Rock:).

Anyway Good morning:). We had a busy day yesterday too. I rode in the morning, then had to go to a baby shower. Then we (all the kids and Mack), met Celia and her fellow downtown, and we played ping pong, and music.

Beaker, just wanted to let you know, I can’t help...I know nothing of dressage. Sounds like you are progressing with Levi very well:)

Hello everyone, thanks for replying.
Hair, what you said is kinda what I figured, but I needed to hear it from another source. Thanks! :-)

Cindy, I'm glad that you had such a nice day. It's always fun when people gush over your horse. :-)

Becky, All of your horses are nice looking. :-) But I do like Harley. :-)
