The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Our trail ride today has been postponed indefinitely. Ecurbh’s had a new hot job possibility open up...

Well, that's bad, but then it's good. I'll be crossing fingers and toes that it works out for y'all.

Sounds like a productive afternoon. Now that you know where the main problem lies, it should be much easier to fix. Good Job!

This is the summer of the snakes... This is about the 12th snake the kittens have brought IN THE HOUSE (when it's nice we like to leave the door open) in the last couple weeks. Second one TODAY.

I don't know if it's just a particularly good year for garter snakes, or whether our kittens are seeking them out, but I don't want them in the house! -Especially not with their tendency to get distracted and let their prey just sortof wander off.

Just popping in to see if there was an update on the possible job interview and to say hi.

Off today because I work tomorrow and Saturday. Tomorrow should be a ball (this is sarcasm) We have to go to a retreat to discuss the future of the library.

Beaker, take pictures if you can when you ride this weekend.

Hair, someone was telling me that cats hypnotize snakes.

Nothing yet... it’s a little frustrating to be left hanging like that... he calls this morning and asks if ecurbh would be available this afternoon... then nothing!

ecurbh finally went to town... he’s got the cell phone with him in case they do call...

When he gets back I want to work horses here at home, anyway... do a little check on how limber Bay looks, and work Cyn on the lunge for some manners. She’s been getting pushier and pushier at places like gates. She walked over the top of me yesterday and all I could do was pick up a little stick to throw at her as she darted away. It was really weak on my part. We need to start carrying a bat in the paddock again.

She’s still super in saddle, but the horse is a real b!tch sometimes if you’re in the way of where she wants to go.

Ouch. I’m not sure I’d want to work for that company. They don’t really sound like they have it all together do they?

Well, it’s a headhunter/placement agency who is acting as a go-between.

It does sound like Cyn needs to be reminded of her manners. Every once in awhile our horses will try that on someone new. Seems like some days, they have a little devil sitting on their withers :)

Okay, that explains the disconnect then. Any time you’re operating through a third party it makes things more complicated to organize.

She does... at her basic level, she’s just very bold and fearless. You can’t flap her away like other horses. If I wave my hand or say “BOO” to Bay, he snorts and backs up. That’s his nature. Pony too. If we wave at Cyn she steps in to investigate why we’re acting that way. It’s uncanny. I don’t know if it’s her basic nature or if she was just too socialized or what.

Oh, my, well at least they are garter snakes.

I’m sorry you haven’t heard anything yet. Waiting can be such pain.

Garter snakes are the only kind we have, luckily.

My niece and nephew just came by with my great niece. Mom and daughter come twice a week and help Bob with horses and/or ride. Anyway, my nephew just killed a rattler this morning that was by his truck when they were getting ready to leave. Guess it's hot enough and dry enough they will start coming in for water.

Cyn's a smart horse. If she learns she will die if she steps on you, she'll stop.

I'll go over there and check it out.

I went out to watch the girls and to water the horses - Bob is fixing fence. Anyway, I took the camera with me.

This is Krista riding Dusty - that's Dusty's natural headset, reminds me a lot of her mom.

This is my small garden, onions, peas, asparagus, strawberries, potatoes and jerusalem artichoke.

This is the big garden - things just starting up except for some tomato plants we bought and set out, everything else is pretty small.

This is Blue and Belle's kennel. They have a nicer house than I do.

Slick and Lace - he's roaned out alot and is as big as she is.

Again, so you can see the size.

Shelley and Indy. He really needs to go on a diet.

This is Slick and I lightened the picture so you all could see the big dark spot on his side. It must be genetic, Sonny has the two on his side.

This kid can fly :) Wish I owned a racing stables.

Hey - thanks for the pics! Indy’s the one with the Arab momma, right?

I think both babies are growing up beautiful.... A speed horse eh? You think he’ll roan out except for that splotch? Or is it just behind?

No, Indy's mom is Farah (she's Tuffy, Fancy and Red's dam)

I don't have any idea what Slick is doing. I don't know why he's roaning, neither Fancy nor Sonny are roan. I admit here I'm mystified.
