This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

From the pictures it looks like it might be like this, but it's hard to tell.

Oh it could certainly be a squirrel’s nest :~) I have a lot of those. Think they’d likely want to be that high up in the tree? It’s sitting right on the broken top.
I never have either on impatiens, but I wondered if they’d be better if I did. I do for petunias and pansies and geraniums.
I bet ya have a hawk! We have lots of them around our property. My trainer hunts with them, and she has the keenest bird-eyes. We’ll be driving down the highway and she’ll say “Oh look! A red tail!” or, “Oh look! A kestral!” I can never see them. Only if I stare and stare.
I have no idea what a squirrels nesting habits are:), I just knew that squirrels nests looked like that.
I googled hawks nest, and it looks from pictures that they don’t use leaves, more woven grass looking.

Sorry I ducked out on the conversation yesterday afternoon. I had to take Mom to a Dr’s appt and it kinda snuck up on me.
Your back forty sure looks nice and cool. I’ll bet the horses sppreciated being let out there.
So what’s the word on the trailer floor?
Not sure yet. I told them to hold off until I could come look at it Sat. I don’t want to spend money on unneccessary repairs but...well you know the but.

I think we’re going this morning, before it gets too hot. We’ve had one reason to put it off after another, I think it’s been nearly two weeks since we’ve gone.
Well it’s easy to put off. I have to constantly remind myself how much I enjoy it once I get started. It’s the starting that’s hard:)

We actually got a little rain early this morning. Not enough to settle the dust, but anything is better than nothing. I think there’s even about a 30% chance for some more over the weekend. So all we can co is hope.
BladeRider and I are going to get together and ride SOMEWHERE on Saturday and I’m really looking forward to it too. I know what you mean about the “getting started” being hard. I need to do more of the little exercise rides I’ve been doing here lately, but like you say, just doing it takes some determination. But I always enjoy it once I get out there too.
Good... I am hoping for a full report with pictures!
Our trail ride today has been postponed indefinitely. Ecurbh’s had a new hot job possibility open up in the last day or two, and the call this morning indicated they may want him for an interview, either on the phone or in person, THIS AFTERNOON. So we have to make him available for that.
Cross your fingers, everyone, hopefully we’ll get the call back with more information soon.

I just got in from about a 45 minute to an hour trail ride, then we worked in the arena for another 30 minutes. Very humid. I did take him to the creek, and he does have a problem with standing still in water. So we were in the water for awhile, till he stood till a slow count to 10. We will work on that now till he gets it, then we’ll take the sponge again.

WOO HOO! A twofer! I LOVE weekends like that! Now you’d BETTER borrow yourself a camera or we’re gonna have to come up there and kick your butt! ;o)
