This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Mack and I just finished the last episode of season 2 of Lost....AAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
BEcky
This is today.
Snake Creek, the big creek you cross going to town.
Looking out from our building
A property on the way home. The barn way off has to be flooded. These people have 2 horses and a donkey. I don't know where they are at.
Becky
Wow... that’s a lot of water :~0
Hope your building stays dry!
We just got back from town.... bought a bunch of flowers for the pots and flower beds, finally.
I don't remember where Season 2 ended up.... Remind me :~D
I planted a flat of impatiens in the shade and a half flat of petunias in pots. Got some seed things I'm gonna try, see if it works, but I didn't have time to get them into the ground tonight.
Below :~) One of the impatiens plantings at the base of the big tree in the yard, some in the box, some in the ground around it.
SO if you went riding, is this the same creek you would cross?
The top creek is the creek I ride thru. I’d like to see what the deep spot I cross looks like now. There are 3 places I cross it at 2 places are always pretty shallow.
If it doesn’t rain tomorrow I’ll go check it out.
Becky
Season 2 ended with the button not being pushed, Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, kneeling on a boat dock captured by the Others, and Michael going off in a boat with Walt. Desmond turning the key under the hatch.
Becky
Would like to see what it looks like to compare. You might have to swim across if you dared. Some of the places you photograph are dry washes that might have water in them now too, right?
Oh yeah - some of that was really irritating :~)
Your flowers will be pretty when they fill the box.
I need to get some impatiens to fill in the spots where I lost stuff when we had the freeze.
As soon as this weather allows, it’s suddenly time to pull the pansies out. Overnight they are looking a bit tired.
Becky
Yeah, there are going to be a lot more spots to cross water in, no doubt.
The trail on my side of the creek down to the deep water, I won’t be able to go down it. It gets really really boggy with sucky mud, and with the rocks too it’s pretty treacherous. I had a horse fall to his knees one time going down it. We went half way with him on his knees and I was just about to bail when he finally got his feet back under him. I won’t go down it anymore when it’s really muddy.
I don’t think he would have to swim, even in the deep spot, it would over flow the banks before it got so deep that he’d have to swim. My concern is if the water is flowing fast, how much does it take to cause a horse to lose his footing?
Becky
Be safe... I’d think if it’s really flooding and muddy too, you can’t see well enough where the rocks and holes are in the water.
At the deep water spot where I cross the bottom is just one big flat rock, a good place to cross.
Becky
Becky
Oh dear... is that the very top of their fence right at the bottom of the window? I hope they got their critters out in time.
Yeah, that’s the fence. I hadn’t even noticed that before.
This place floods everytime we get a big rain. I always wonder what they do with their animals, they must have some place they stash them when it happens.
Becky
There is actually a pretty good size pond out there in the middle of this one.
And the house across the street.
Becky
24’s not on yet :~)
Yikes... I wouldn’t want to live in a flood plain.
Did you get a bunch more rain today? Is it sortof receding now, or is there more coming?
Up before they chickens this morning for some reason.
Wow, that is a lot of rain, Becky. We have been dry for over a week now. But, it is coming in a few days.
Wow that’s a lot of water. Stay safe! Is it flooded at your place?
