The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think it's best to buy a pair already broke . . . . < g >

I'll start a horse under saddle, but if I ever drive again I'm going to get a Mr. Reliable and he's going to be at least 15 years old!

I bet Gracie would let me hitch her to a cart . . . but she's really too tall for a cart. Her hocks would be about level with my nose . . .

Yeah, a tall cart horse is a little rough when the road apples start flying. They just come right over the front of the cart and into your lap. EEEEEWWWWWW!!

I was watching a driving competition on TV one time where it was a single horse and a 2-wheel cart and they must’ve had an inexperienced horse because that horse kicked that cart all to pieces. It was incredible. There was nothing left of it but a pile of splinters.

What's a few road apples more or less?

Lord knows I've shovelled enough of them over the years, I just don't care any more.

Now dog deposits, I still don't like. I carry them at arm's length to the doggy dooley and make faces all the way.

Shoveling horse crap is one thing, having it dropped on me is quite another. That’s just plain nasty!

LOL...well I saw what you said your age was...believe me that’s not old...Funny the older I get the more I realize that “old” isn’t as old as we think it is when we are younger...

That would be cool wouldn't it. But I'm afraid I have a hard enough time with one set of reins for one horse, let alone 3.

I can imagine Bob in the middle!

That’s interesting about the helicopters in the peach orchard, but I can’t see where that’d be cost effective either.

Helicopters (National Guard nonetheless) were on standby here in Clanton to protect the peaches here too. They did not have to use them, they had some windmils and piles of coal burning.

To: FrogInABlender; All
Picked up the colt that I bought during Christmas this past weekend. He's the second from the left and a full brother to the gray in the foreground so he'll be a gray eventually.

He's registered as Watch A Zipper (???). He's got Zippo Pine Bars and Watch Joe Jack but Watch A Zipper? Sounds like a joke.

He'll be 2 in June. Took him on his first trail ride yesterday; led him with his older brother. All he carried was a saddle. We were out about an hour and he done great.

All, this is a horse farm in the county next to mine. I have been by it several times. So sad. I don't know how to post a link so just copy and paste to your browser.

Someone has a warped sense of humor ;-) Sounds like something this list would come up with LOL.

...Watch A Zipper (???)...

LOL!! The breeder had a sense of humor indeed! The only thing that would've been better is if he'd been names Watch YOUR Zipper.

Whatcha gonna call him?

You submit 3 names to the AQHA and they pick one.

214. NAMING A HORSE. Each horse for which registration is applied must be given a name acceptable to AQHA.

I need a barn name for him. How bout some suggestions. I thought about calling him Zip but that sounds more like a dogs name.

Aw Man! That’s sad! They’d be having to drag me outta the burning barn too and they’d probably have to hog-tie me coz I’d be fighting them tooth and toenail every inch of the way.

I can think of quite a few but not sure they are appropriate!
