The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Did you look at the link above...those sidewalk illusions are really cool.

I'm blocked from seeing that one because it's on a site classified as "Games", but if it's the one where this awful face pops up and screams at you, you're lucky that I can't coz I'd have to reach through the computer and slap you. I HATE those things! They scare 5 years off my life ever time I see them.

Depends, on how fast they grow and spread. Normally, every few years. Yours look pretty good right now, and should not need divided for awhile.

What I think is really cool is how they look from the opposite end and how long and drawn out he has to make them so that they look right from the proper vantage point...

The guy who does these is named Julian Beever and there's more on his website...

We went and got the last disc of season 1 of Lost...it's nothing but bonus stuff...we were at the end of the season and didn't know it.

WEnt back and got the 1st disc of season 2, that's what we are doing this evening.

Have fun this evening :~)

We've been washing the trailer.

Now we're gonna hook it up, drive it around enough to round out the flat spots on the tires, check the air and brakes and such. If it keeps getting warmer, I may scrub that fuzzy Bay horse.

I'm interested in what kind of prices you see at the auction.

Tuffy leaves for school on Sunday - about two hours away from here. He'll be there about 90 days unless the trainer decides he can't cut it. Monday we'll feed nine horses :)

Good Morning.

Happy Friday!

Still no rain and things are drying up.

Happy Friday back at you! I was just noticing yesterday afternoon that the mud at the barn was drying up. I thought that was never going to happen!

I need to do all those chores to my trailer too...especially the tires. That one tire I had so much trouble with going to the last ride, hasn't been fixed yet. I was thinking about getting in this past week, guess it will be next week:).

So did you wash your horse? Some thing else I need to do, but probably won't at least not till he finishes shedding...so hard to wash one that still has so much winter coat. I have trouble getting them clean clear to the skin.

Good job on washing the trailer! Both of mine sure need it. But what they really need is a sand blasting and a coat of paint. They're just rusting away. The older 2H actually looks better than the newer 3H I bought a few years ago. On that one, what isn't actually rusting has got rust stains running down it. So it looks pretty bad. Sitting out in the weather is really hard on them. When I finally get my own place I'm definately going to build a trailer shed.

Good morning, it rained here yesterday, quit a bit actually. Mud everywhere.

I don't know what horses are going for around here at auction...I know not very much. A lot of people unloaded them because of the drought. Hay is very scarce around here.

We're FINALLY supposed to get some rain around here on Sunday and I've been praying hard that it does because we're bone dry. The temps have been is the 80s too, which is more normal for early June than for March. But it's supposed to cool off with the rain, so that'll be nice.

I was planning on riding Sunday morning, since I've got a baby shower to go to tomorrow, but if it'll rain I'm not going to complain one bit.

Well, I wish Tuffy luck at school... May he learn well and make you proud :~)

Good morning everyone! I got one answer from RickB over at the horse forum who says pony's foot is just like overgrown cuticle and don't worry about it. That's what it looks like, I've just never seen it grow like that on her... or anybody.

My farrier is supposed to be here Thursday. I'll find out more then.

No - Bay didn't get a bath, we ran out of day, and it was not really quite warm enough to spray down someone I like with a cold hose. I like to bathe them to help them shed, I find if I hose them down good, then lunge them dry, the hair just rolls off. I dunno... maybe it would have rolled off without all that, but at least when I curry him again, it's *clean* hair rolling off :~)

Today I think we'll be doing some more chores, I think Tiff and Danny are coming over for a movie and social tonight. I always have to clean house when she's coming... she's one of those really clean house people ;~)

Well, hoping it rains there.

I've been trying hard not to complain about the rain:), after last year, I'm glad to see it rain. I'm just going to have to cowboy up and ride in the mud:)

Yeah, I saw his post over there. I'm glad it's not serious. I didn't think it was since she was so sound, I just wondered what it could develop into. I'm interested to see if your farrier has seen it before and how often.

So what movie are you all going to watch? Mack and i will probably watch 2 more episodes of Lost:) We try to stay disciplined and only watch 2 a night. I'd have watched a bit more last night, but Mack was ready to come home.

Fiddler on the Roof. She mentioned that she'd never seen it and wanted to. I said I'd loan it to her a long time ago but she never remembered to take it when she was here, and I never remembered it when I went there... so we talked about it again and just made a date to watch it here together :~)
