This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yikes... good picture ops indeed!
Well, that'll be exciting!
"A farriers nightmare:')"
Heat treated horse shoes would be a farrier's nightmare.
Bay looks so "preppy" now:')
Her flowering trees are all blooming! How pretty :~)
Good looking horses... cute pony! - And much more trim than I remember from last year when we saw that pony, right?
Yeah, I really liked all the trees.
The pony has slimmed down...pasture is getting thin down there. She actually belongs to some friends of Charlie and Kristy whose kids were not riding her at all. Now that Kristy has figured out that JP is really not old enough, or really has the desire now to ride, I think she is going to send the pony back to the owners. Well, she's been saying that for awhile now. So who knows.

He looks like someone actually cares about him :~)
Jeepers... I just noticed the mold growing on the barn behind him. I think the next sunny day will be bleach and a brush day :~)
I like the look of his eye in the first picture, and Pony standing out there watching:)
Becky
Wish I could get near that pony with the clippers running :~)
A local man was killed in Iraq last week. A lot of the business have tributes to him on their signs. Normally, I do not read the local paper or watch the news too often and didn't realize this happened until I saw the signs. Fire and police departments have their flags at half mast. May he rest in peace.
Prayers being said for family and friends.
Prayers.
So nice that the town is recognizing him.

Just my opinion here, but I think you need to ditch the lessons and just go with Josh when he goes on these 4 hour trail rides. I've got confidence that you're a good enough rider to work out any problems you may have out on the trail. And it's not like Josh is going to run off and leave you like other people might. You and SL will learn more during that time than in a whole boat-load of lessons. Plus, a wet saddle blanket is a great tranquilizer. ;o)
How'd your ride go?
We're adopting a Becky method of getting horses back into a work frame of mind here... wanted your counsel... Yesterday they stood tied for a couple hours... Today, we've got Cyn saddled, thought we'd let them stand for an hour, then we'll lunge her, probably while I tool around on Bay... then ??? Might just put her away and repeat tomorrow, he might get on, really don't know. We're playing it by ear. What do you think?
She's such a snot, she huffed at ecurbh brushing her belly, but if you smack her right off the bat, she stood and behaved afterwards. She just needs to be smacked once for good measure every day, and then she's a little angel :~)
Bumping to get your attention over here :~)
Oh, so sorry I missed this first post:), I had to go cook supper.
Yes the neighbor cancelled. But she had a good excuse. Her business downtown (a laundramat) was broke into last night and she had to stay till the police came.
Anyway, "then" anything y ou want. Stand her tied somemore, turn her loose ride her...
I think standing a horse tied, especially after they have had a long break is one of the best, safest for all concerned to get them back in work mode frame of mind.
When you said yesterday you were leaving them standing tied, it made a little wiggle in my mind for a fleeting moment, that hey, she's leaving them standing tied...I didn't think she did that. i was going to comment and got distracted.
Any horse I ride always gets saddled at least 15 minutes before I go ride, sometimes they stand as much as an hour. Then they also stand for a while when I first get back, still saddled.
I'd bet if you did this several days in a row, Cyn may not have to have the slap, it would be routine, and she'd just do it.
Becky
Oh, I forgot, my ride, once again was great. Harley is doing so well...We did hills today, and just a bit of loping and trotting.
Becky
Not bad, just drizzle... not even sure if it shows up in any of the pictures :~)
Cyn did just great lunging and riding, no problems. I was nervous for my honey (of course, I always am) and made him promise to just walk, not inspire any horsiness on her part, but she was fine. It's great that we can get away with that with her. She hasn't been ridden since October.
Snapped a couple pictures...
I threw my cigarette pack in the air so she'd put her ears up for a portrait... didn't tell ecurbh he wasn't supposed to look at it, just her. ;~)
Bay says "what about me? I was good too!" He was. He feels good. Nice brisk walk, particularly on the way back to the gate. ;~)
