The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Man, you really lucked out on that deal. I worry constantly about leaving my purse somewhere, I've gotten so absent-minded lately.

Those people that found your wallet sound super nice.

That earth tone color on your wall makes the room look much warmer. I like it alot.

Becky, this is so typical of what I have learned of the foundation horses. Perhaps some confirmational faults but the greatest minds you can find.

He does have a great mind, and altho he hasn't thrown his color for us:(, every baby we have ever gotten from him has the same mind even tho the mares may be a bit bitchy:). I guess if I could only choose one thing that I wanted him to pass it would be his mind.

I helped a former friend buy a foundation gelding this past spring. Horse was in training with my trainer but hurt his suspensory badly and no one is quite sure how. He's been on about 5 months stall rest and I pray he recovers from this because he is just a great guy. Big soft eye and quiet personality. It's unfortunate that his owner and I fell out but I won't deal with liars. At least I get to see the horse when I visit Deuce.

He's a bay roan, which I had never seen before. The colors of the foundation horses are amazing too.

I remember that horse, because I had a bay roan at the time. He was not papered, but was QH breeding....the breeders just never papered him. Bay Roans are pretty:)

I sold Rusty last year.

Rastus looks a lot like Rusty. I had posted that shaggy pic of him on here. After two months at Yogi's he lost his fat neck and was really shaping up. I got to ride him once at about 90 days training and he was awesome. I've never owned anything but arabians but fell in love with foundations.

I think that Rocky's absolubely GORGEOUS. What's not conformationally correct about him, other than the withers? I think wither height is an subjective thing.

...I want Al Gore to move to Nevada so we get some of his global warming.

What, so he can warm it up with all that hot air coming out of his mouth?! ;o)

Meeee too! I swear I'd leave my head if it weren't attached to my shoulders. I've also left my purse in a buggy in the local Wal-Mart parking lot and drove off and left it. Fortunately I just drove over to the next shopping center before I realized it and went flying back over there to get it and the same kinda thing happened. This guy and his wife happened to be pulling up just as I drove off and spotted it in the buggy and he got it and just sat in the car with it, waiting for it's owner to reappear and go frantically searching the buggies for it. I really think that I must have a Guardian Angel with some serious pull with the Lord to keep me out of all the trouble that I seem to be so good at getting myself into.

Wow, you've had 2 very close calls! I had a dream a few nights ago that my purse got stolen, I've been more paranoid than usual about it ever since.

Well, hopefully your dream won't come true, because after I got to thinking about all the crap I'd have to go through to cancel my credit cards and checks, get a new license, new insurance cards and the possibility of identity theft that could result from all of that, it just boggles the mind. I wouldn't wish that on anybody!

Well guys, Harley is very lame today, in his left rear hip/leg....Celia is riding by herself, and I made a vet appointment. She can't see him tho till 3:00 tomorrow.

Maybe this is what was making him so pissy yesteday...

I'm so afraid it's his stifle.

Huh... I'm so sorry.... do you recall any sign of anything happening yesterday? Are you doing anything today for it? Like bute or something?

I thought yesterday his stride seemed different, more choppy but it didn't feel like a lame choppiness, I thought he was just hyped up from not being rode much and the cooler weather. He did not appear lame at all yesterday.

Celia thinks now tho, that it could have been the reason yesterday he got a bit squirrelly that one time, altho she said she watched him and she didn't notice any lameness like this, but that the ride yesterday aggravated whatever so that it showed up today.

He taking really really short steps with that one leg is the best way I can describe it. And it's kind of hanging back more rather then being under him.

Oh, and no I'm not going to bute him, I want the vet to be able to see what he is doing. How to treat him tho is the main reason for taking him to the vet, I don't know if he should be stalled, or turned out....that can vary depending on the injury...I hate that he was to wait till tomorrow.

Well that's just the pits! Just when you were starting to get him back in shape. Hopefully he's just sore or strained something and a few more days of rest will be all he needs. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyways!

Whew, finally my cable is back on. It went out shortly after I did the morning ping. Becky, so sorry about Harley. I hope he is ok. The pictures with your new camera are so nice and clear. The accent wall is really cool. I love earth tone shades. Those programs on HGTV are my favorites also. Such talent with the designers.

Hair, don't forget to "batter" down those hatches again..lol

Frog, Glad you had a good ride and lucky for you, some good people find your wallet. Have you thought about a fanny pack? With it around your waist, you won't lose it.
