This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah, you really have to make sure the horse knows whose in charge...there should be no question about it in the horses mind. That was something I had trouble with too when I first started.
People would tell me "act like you know what you're doing" Well that's hard to do when you don't even have a clue how to "act":)

But, I'm wondering (I always second guess myself:), if I'm going to have an accent wall would it be better to accent the wall that has the patio window in it?? This is looking from the front door, what you see when you walk in.
And just a picture of the whole wall.
Becky
I like it a lot Becky! I love vivid colors.
I think I'm beginning to like color too on the walls. I was raised with white walls around me my whole life, and I've been a bit hesitant to paint colors.
We've been watching a lot of those decorating shows on TV, "Get Color", Hidden Potential, Sell this House...and I've been noticing how much I always like the rooms they decorate with the warm earth tone colors. You can really make a room warm and cozy just from the colors.
Becky
I did something really stupid though and it's just a wonder that it turned out ok.
We went to the rails-to-trails and rode the south end of the trail first, heading out about 9am. We got back to the depot about 11:30, then went to the little diner next door and had a burger for lunch. After lunch we rode the north end and got back to the car around 3. I got back to the barn around 4:30 and fed everybody and all that and got home around 5:30 and that's when I discovered that I'd left my wallet up there somewhere. And of course it wasn't just the little pared-down wallet that I sometimes carry when I ride, it was the full monty...credit cards, checks, insurance cards, calling cards AND about $100 in cash! I was just about to have a STROKE, so I ran in the house to call one of the guys who lives up that way to see if he could run back down there and check the restroom in the depot, because I had used it after lunch, but I noticed that the message light was on on the answering machine, so I punched it and there was a message from this lady saying that she had been at the rails-to-trails that day and had something that belonged to me and said to give her a call and identify the item and she'd make arrangements to get it back to me. Talk about relieved, boy was I ever! So I called her and we decided to meet at the Wal-Mart closest to the trail. It took me about an hour to get back there so it was after 6:30 by the time we met, but they were just the nicest people and I remembered seeing her. She had helped hold one of the guy's horse when he was trying to get him to stand next to the mounting block. She said that her husband had gone into the restroom when they got back from their ride (there's only one restroom) and had found it on the paper towel holder. They had looked inside and gotten my name and asked all the other female riders at the trailhead if their name was Elizabeth and didn't find anybody so they just took it home with them and called when they got home. It didn't even occur to me to wonder how they got my phone number until my husband said something about it, because they don't put it on your driver's license anymore, but then we remembered that it's printed on our checks, and I was sure glad that it was. Everything was still in it, just like I left it, even the money. I offered to pay them for all the trouble I'd put them through and for the gas that they had to burn to drive back down to meet me with it, but they wouldn't take it. So that just goes to show you that horse people are the best kinda people in the world!
I like the accent colored wall just like you did it. I love that color too. It does make it seem much more cozy.
I think Becky's stallion is Foundation but you're right, they are few and far between.
:) Go ahead and complain, you're entitled. Want to join me in my "I really hate winter" refrain?
There's more good people around than we think, and it's nice to be reminded of that!
I've always wanted to have one wall painted a deep red, like the color of the picture frame on your wall. I always like that when I see it on home decorating shows. It's pretty bold though! Gotta have a house that can carry it, and I don't think this trailer is it. :~)
I really like that wall and the color you picked. I think you are right to paint that wall, if you had painted the wall with the patio door in it, it would look darker since it wouldn't have the light from the door to highlight it. I really, really like it. What color did you use?
Sure, I'll hate winter with you this year. I just wish the wind 'events' would stop, I promise not to complain about snow and rain.
I would have done the same wall you did.
From reading the e-mail tho, several things that might turn this person off of him is he is not really conformationally correct, he has very little withers, and he's a bit short. 14:1 1/2. And, LOL, I don't know what she considers "reasonably priced:)". Our price might not seem reasonable:), but I think if you consider all he is, IMO, it's not unreasonable.
Consider sending a young inexperienced rider out on a trail ride on a stud...this has got to be worth something.
Becky
LOL...well when we finally get the real remodeling done that we want too, my plan is to paint that wall red:), really. But right now I'm a little limited on what I could put up there because of the furniture I have. I don't think the red would work with mauves and greens.
This was just a test to see if I want an accent wall.
Becky
Ok, I hadn't thought about that, I think you're right:)
The color I just picked out on a color card from WalMart, called Summer Pecan.
Funny how until I got everything hung on it and the furniture back in place, I was really having doubts about liking it. Once I got everything arranged tho, I like the whole feel of the room now:) And I'm jealous that my chair sits with it's back to it, and Mack gets to have the full effect of the wall and the window:)
Becky
That is great, and it is always great to hear about things like that...you know, I wouldn't have thought any one would have done that.
Becky
Oh, he's definately worth a bit. And, conformationally - he is built exactly like foundation quarter horses :) which he is.
It's the perfect color for the room with the furniture you have in there. And it does make it warm and cosy.
Our high on Friday is supposed to be 27 degrees. Bob and I were talking about that this morning - how the east is getting all these warm temperatures and we're hitting a major ice age :) I want Al Gore to move to Nevada so we get some of his global warming.
