The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Maybe we should all join on line at WW and start our own diet club:') They got mad at me the last time I was there though, but there is more to life than food and I have a bad habit of seeing a funny side to stuff, that there isn't much of a sense of humor about:')

It's that "change of life" . . . it really sucks.

My new OB/GYN is a very interesting lady. She asked me, "Would you like to hear my teleological reason why we all gain weight as we hit the 50s?" I said, "Fire away!"

Her theory is this -- back when we were all hunter-gatherers, there was never enough food to go around and everybody was always hungry. And we old ladies (50 was ANCIENT in those days) would be sitting around the fire with everybody else, and get our handful of Not Enough, and the little potbellied kid next to us would look up with big round eyes, and we'd say, "Here. You take mine." So only those of us who could really make the calories go the distance survived!

At least, that's her story and she's sticking to it. < g >

Actually the meeting I go to is very funny and lighthearted.

The leader is quite a character and she's always bringing props and stuff, I heard through the grapevine that she's one of the best in the area.

The meeting were... ok. I liked the instructor. If I knew why I always quit, usually aound 6 weeks I could fix it.

Actually Grizzly is not a lab:), but everyone thinks he is. He is catahoula/blueheeler...

There were some catahoulas at the barn where we looked at that horse. We had to ask what they were... we all thought that they were some sort of pointer. They were really nice, friendly dogs.

So far, so good. 3 weeks, 10 pounds. But it gets harder as I go along. The first 7 pounds were REAL easy because I was over my usual weight. Then I was sick 1 week but still lost a pound. I'll have to buckle down this week and get serious or I'll lose the momentum . . .

Maybe the instructor could help you figure that out.

I'm on the flex plan. I like my home cooking too much to do the Core plan -- it cuts out too many of my favorite ingredients, like cream, and butter, and rib eye steak, and arborio rice, and . . . well, you get the idea!

I had to drive my daughter back to college Saturday and ate on the road . . . amazingly, a chik-fil-a chargrilled sandwich is only 5 points, so even if you eat fast food you don't doom your plan. And I didn't know Applebee's had a WW menu!

That worked best for me too. I gained on the core. You can get a lot of carbs esp eating a bunch of bananas and everything there can be used to make corn bread and....

I'm like you, AAM...the first 6 pounds came off pretty easy, since then, it's been 1-2 a week. I was hoping to reach my goal weight by March...probably not going to happen till May...

I am not really on any diet, lean meats, vegetables, almonds, and 1 South Beach Snack bar a day. Pretty much counting calories and carbs. 1000 cal and about 45 carbs a day.

I've got 9 lbs to go to my goal weight, I'll have lost 32 total.

I couldn't go to any meetings either...I'm just not into group stuff like that.

That's just it, I haven't been riding that much...not since last year when I broke my arm. I've had short spells when I got to ride a lot, but I have not been riding much...

You're welcome. I am totally uncoordinated, I'm the one that ran over myself with an ATV. I only go in something like the Suzuki or on horse, then I'm not responsible for causing accidents :)
