Well, sorry about not winning the lottery this week then!
What's Friday doing? Is this her first foal you think?
Same here. Wish they would get here soon so I can gripe about the heat.
I'm just hoping for enough warmth to germinate the grass seed we spread yesterday. :~)
Is the threat of a freeze over for the season for ya'll?
Not quite... we're taking a risk... but we decided we'd risk the cost of a bag of seed in favor of optimism!
Yes, this is definately her first foal. We bought her from her original owner - owned her mom when she was born. She's doing okay. The past two nights she has spent glued to the dividing wall between the foaling stall and Sonny. He seems to have a calming effect on the mares when they are getting ready to foal. I'm glad to see that, at least he's not hit and run :) he wants to take care of them.
Very good... is he good during foaling too?
When Bay was at Bob's and Taffy was in foal, Bay got really attached to her, and when she foaled, he got really alarmed. It was a chaotic scene because while she was closed into the barn where both stalls had been opened up for her, he was closed right outside in the paddock. He started running laps around the barn. Not sure if it was in response to, or the cause of, Taffy's decision to reject the foal. Bay was outside trumpeting and running, Taffy was inside throwing the baby against the wall. A lot of things were going haywire at once.
Bob yelled "GET BAY THE HELL OUT OF HERE" "GET A LINE ON TAFFY". I caught Bay and took him out to a far pasture and hoped he'd stay put out there, we got a line on Taffy and we managed to persuade her to let the baby nurse... but it was a reaction from both of them that we didn't predict. The vet thought maybe Bay, since he thinks he's herd stallion, was wanting to kill the baby because it wasn't his... I don't know if that's what was in his mind or not, but he was really upset by the whole thing and if we ever tried to have another foal, I wouldn't want him around!
After the baby was old enough to get out and mingle, Bay was really a good pasture mate... He'd guard them both. They used him as a buddy for Cadence when they weaned. So go figure.
He's very good. An occassional murmur from him but he stays right in his stall so he's close. Almost like he's saying "I'm right here". He was that way with the foals that weren't his also.
Well, good for him :~)
It's Rosie's new dog :~)
Unless his owners are found. We put up a sign at the store already.
He sure is a friendly looking guy.
He is... very quiet... very nice. no issues with either the dogs or the cats.
I have to get a pick of Cocoa before it is too late. She is very smart and sits and shakes but she isn't going to live much longer if she doesn't stop chewing things up. Remember that swimming pool that I finally got. Well Cocoa got it too.
Aww. He's a happy boy now.
Hey Karri!!! How are you? I remember very well when I got 3 photo's in the mail of Bint Ibn Talal and her half Arab/Quarter baby. She is on foal watch right now! today!!! This will be her third for me. First a colt by my favorite old stallion DR Jahim. Second was a grey filly, now two and a half years old. And this year, this baby is by my stallion that I imported from England a few years ago. Her four/five year old colt bred his first few mares last year, he'll have his first babies in May. She's doing great! Spoiled rotten. How are you? Do you have any other Straight Egyptian jewels hidden up there for me to buy? I now have about fourty horses. The other day, someone asked if they were all for sale. I told them all but Jalal. I specifically went out to buy that mare Bint Ibn Talal to get a replacement of my 18 year friend DR Jahim and he is the replacement. There is no money that will buy him. Isn't that a great story? Nothing like finding a home for a horse that will really appreciate them, Huh? Keep in touch, now. Tom
Hey - that's just turned out so well for everyone! Must feel good :~)
Hey duchess that sounds great. How nice they responded back to you.
The dog looks pretty nice....do you think she is older?? Did she have the collar on?
Well I just did something really stupid:\ I was trying to get a set of pictures of Harley that better show his confirmation to add to my thread over on the horse forum. Do you know how hard it is to get those type of pictures by yourself:). Anyway I was trying to get him out of the mud so he would be standing level. I was outside fence....guess what...yeah, he got away from me....up the road he went, dragging his lead rope. He didn't go far before he turned around and headed back but went past my drive going the other way....Luckily Grizzly showed up about then, and ran him up by the fake hot wire fence at the front of our property and then sat down and held him there while I came up from the other side. Was totally my screw up for dropping the lead to step back and take a picture, then flipping my hand at him to keep his head up...I wish I would have thought to snap a picture of him running thru the neighbors yard, tail up, stepping high....:)
We went back to his pen to take the pictures:). But now after looking at them, I don't like them and just going to forget it. Horses all look so bad when the have their winter coats, especially lite colored horses like him, he looks so dirty even tho I knocked all the mud off him...I'm not about to post these pictures over there:) Is that too much pride or what:)
Becky
Oh dear! What a fiasco... My big fear here is a loose horse... Tiger food!
Good job on Grizzly! That's pretty cool help in a pinch!
Agreed on trying to get them in winter coats... they just always look rough.
He and no... no collar, no tags... we found a spare for him.
Post the pictures here anyway - we'd love to see more of him.
