Very good... is he good during foaling too?

When Bay was at Bob's and Taffy was in foal, Bay got really attached to her, and when she foaled, he got really alarmed. It was a chaotic scene because while she was closed into the barn where both stalls had been opened up for her, he was closed right outside in the paddock. He started running laps around the barn. Not sure if it was in response to, or the cause of, Taffy's decision to reject the foal. Bay was outside trumpeting and running, Taffy was inside throwing the baby against the wall. A lot of things were going haywire at once.

Bob yelled "GET BAY THE HELL OUT OF HERE" "GET A LINE ON TAFFY". I caught Bay and took him out to a far pasture and hoped he'd stay put out there, we got a line on Taffy and we managed to persuade her to let the baby nurse... but it was a reaction from both of them that we didn't predict. The vet thought maybe Bay, since he thinks he's herd stallion, was wanting to kill the baby because it wasn't his... I don't know if that's what was in his mind or not, but he was really upset by the whole thing and if we ever tried to have another foal, I wouldn't want him around!

After the baby was old enough to get out and mingle, Bay was really a good pasture mate... He'd guard them both. They used him as a buddy for Cadence when they weaned. So go figure.

He's very good. An occassional murmur from him but he stays right in his stall so he's close. Almost like he's saying "I'm right here". He was that way with the foals that weren't his also.
