The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Happy valentines day to you, too! I just finished putting my kids goodies out on the table for them to find when they get home from school.

Today.

And I took this picture a while back and have meant to post it, just because I like it:) It's looking out my back door, and I thought the moon looked cool that night, but it's funny when I looked at the picture it didn't look like I thought it would. The flash lit up the trees, made the whole scene look different then it really did. But I liked the picture too.

Those are both good pictures. We are having snow flurries right now but nothing you'd be able to see on camera.

I'm so sick of winter.

Hair, I need some advice, I am going to try to start up a writer's/fiction appreciation thread. How do I go about it?

There are a lot of writers, would-be writers and fiction lovers here on FR and I'd like to have a thread for them. Myself and GOP poet are talking about it but apparently both of us are ignoramuses on how to do it.

Any advice appreciated --- from anybody.

Good morning!

Rotten commute today. My car has rear wheel drive, and the roads weren't plowed... they were just a big slushy mess. I was all over the road, and scared out of my mind. I just missed a 4 car pileup. Then my train was delayed and I was really late getting in, but thankfully so were most people. The snow is supposed to turn to sleet, which is supposed to turn to freezing rain, so the roads are going to be even more fun on the way home!

Terrific pictures... Both of them ! Look how light Harley is.

The trees look really neat in the dark pic... looks like a Halloween scene. Funny as much wind as you've got that so many leaves hang on this long.

I'll ping some other writers I know of for their tips!

I'd come up with an explanation and title that will help people understand what the thread's about... Might want to make sure you're around enough to make sure people feel responded to when they post. May want to ping the thread every morning, every few days, whatever you think you'll need to do to keep people checking back for new content.

Yikes, it's a winter wonderland all over! Guess it's not spring yet after all.

We're supposed to just have a deluge of rain today... Maybe it won't be as bad as they say, it's just been so mild and dryish they think we aren't used to it... but they're not just calling it rain, they're calling it a "Rain Event".

Wow Beaker, that really does sound like a high pucker-factor drive! Hopefully they will have plowed the roads by this evening and it'll be better. Have you ever used chains on your tires? I don't know anything about them since we get snow and ice so seldom down here, but if I lived up there I would sure want to do SOMETHING. Stay safe and Good luck this evening!

...they're calling it a "Rain Event".

Ooooooo, that's not a good sign. Anytime something qualifies for an "Event" status then it's unusually bad. Batter down your hatches, clean out your ditches, and stay dry!

Yeah, Harley's color isn't pretty at all in the winter, very washed out.

I took some pictures of his front feet. They are not all that good, it's very cold, and I didn't take the time to clean them up. But I'll post them anyway, and see if you all can tell anything.

These are really bad, you may not be able to really see anything. Sorry. I'll have to try again this weekend when it's warmer.

Thanks but I don't even know how to do a ping list. And how do you get those cool pics up like at the top of the Horse Thread?

Do I justy start off with a Vanity?

It doesn't sound good does it? My drainage is all cleaned out :~)... with the exception of being a little low on hay, I think we have enough to get through the two days till it stops.

I'd converse with a few cohorts who will be there when you're ready.

A ping list is just a list of names that are interested, separated by ;;;; - saved in a word document.

I think it'd help to do some googling and try to find something you can use as a catchy graphic... A pencil... a picture of a typewriter or a book... I dunno. We made the picture at the top of the thread... It's a picture of Bay... if you find a picture you want to use, my hubby and I can help make it a graphic with words you want... if you don't have a graphics program that can do that.

You two be very careful out there. The snow is really drifting now. Strong West winds. I had to shovel snow from the barn door to get in. I did venture out to the store for soda and cigs. The main roads were not too bad, but secondary (like mine) were pretty nasty. Some people in Ohio are without power. We have have a fire going in the woodburner, just in case, but hopefully, we won't lose power. This storm is suppose to last until Monday!

Tires with chains on them are illegal in the good ole state of MA, as are tires with studs. We can put snow tires on, but only between certain months. We haven't had more than a dusting before now, (which accounts for the pileup, everyone has forgotten how to drive)so just have all weather tires on. But I went to the hardware store and got 60 pounds of sand to put in my trunk to try to weigh down my back end. It works if the roads are plowed, useless if they aren't, but really you can only do so much.

You stay safe! You're closer to the lake than I am. Snow is supposed to stop here in a few hours. We're gonna have some really cold weather again but hopefully no more white stuff.
