This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Winter doldrums. I don't want to infect the thread with my winter crabbiness:)
Becky
Very pretty kitty:)
Becky
Miss Mary looks like a sweetie. I'm glad she found a good home with y'all.
What?! No pictures?! ;o)
I'm slackin' :~) Maybe I got infected with Becky's crabbiness :~)
Good morning Becky!
Oooh - farrier's coming this morning. That's exciting horse news! I think I'll take some pictures of that. :~)
Yay, Pics! It's still cold enough here for a bare hand to stick to a shoe. Yuck!
The horses got baths this morning. They were filthy. Sarah Lee just had to dry herself off when done. Josh took Okie on a trail ride. I'm the babysitter today and I was so mad when I saw him waving and didn't have my camera. He has that new Australian saddle and they were a pretty picture, next to the canal..
Cody likes Mary:')
Have you taken Sara Lee on anymore beach rides? (Was that you?)
Yeah . It was me. I haven't got my nerve back up to try that again but I will....someday:')
Maybe, I will have some plastic surgery or botox. Yes, I am serious.
A nice make over, just might do the trick!
Congrats to your trainer! Sorry, I forgot to post this yesterday. She looks like an older lady, which I think is just awesome. Good for her!
She's in splendid shape, thin and wiry. When she was teaching our class yesterday afternoon, she was still in her breeches and canary vest from hunting all morning!
I'm with MT, by looking at that picture, I thought she was more like 60-ish or so. I had you pegged for maybe 40, if that much, so either y'all are both older than I thought, or that pictures is making her look older than she is.
Here it is on the ground...
And here's the other one...
He's not particularly ouchy on it... he and the mares went out and farted around a bit after this, and I never would have thought anything was missing. He's about to land on it here and he appears to be heel down.
Those would be some good pics to post over on the Farrier Forum, just to see what THEY would say. I'm no expert, and I may be totally wrong, but he looks like he's got too much heel to me and they're a little under-slung, just judging by the way the horn tubules at the heel are at a steeper angle than they are at the toe. But his toe looks good. Maybe just a hair of flare there, but not enough to even mention. So there you have it. My amateur, read-in-in-a-book, trimmer's assessment. Those guys over there would probably slap me down in a minute.
Great thing about carrying a few extra pounds is that it disguises your age! < g >
I think they look more underslung than some feet I've seen, I agree. I just posted at the horse forum, some of those farriers hang out there, I'll see if they offer anything I can use to talk to Mark this afternoon.
He moves better on it than I thought he would. When Mark has him trimmed and he's waiting for the shoes, he's been pretty ouchy on the gravel, but not today... all that wall is still there I guess. Anyway, I was impressed. I'd always sortof assumed if he pulled a shoe on trail I'd be walking back with a really ouchy horse.
