This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Sometimes it just happens - something that nobody could find on the vet check develops. It's sad that it's progressive and so painful.
I do feel sorry for the poor boy.
When Ruby arrived, she was a little butterball.
The breeder fosters her in-whelp bitches out to friends so that the pups grow up underfoot in a home with kids and commotion. She said the only problem with the lady who fosters Ruby's mom is that she overfeeds them. Otherwise it's a perfect situation - 40 fenced acres, pups get to play outside with the mom in a puppy paddock - My Shelley was also a butterball when she arrived, but that was because she was Boss Dog in a litter of nine and got more than her fair share of the food.
My vet competes her own dogs in agility and is a stickler for keeping them at the proper weight. We've actually had to adjust Ruby's food UP - she burns a lot of calories just kangarooing around.
The Labrador standard says there should be little or no tuck. I showed Logan as fat as I would ever want to get him, and he still wasn't nearly as fat as the other labs. They look like sausages with legs, but the judges keep rewarding it.
And you're right, as long as the judges keep rewarding it, it'll keep happening.
Yeah, same thing happens in the halter Quarter Horse arena, but it's still unhealthy. It's a crying shame.
Just saw that. So sad. He fought so damn hard.
OH NO!
So sad.
Sorry nanster, all I get is a red x. Keep trying though. Try uploading them to Snapfish or Photobucket. Those work every time.
This morning Cocoa was laying on the rug in the garage against Cindy. She just looked at me with this sad look , like "what have you done," Improvement though. The puppy was sleeping on the other side of the garage. My husband has
d my camera, making ID bagges for me. I''ll try to post some pics tonight.
I had to switch a setting. It should work now.
Darn! Still not working.
Maybe Hair can get it, when she gets back here.
Nothin' pitiful about CJ! I love her!
We just got back from our walk in the woods... what a workout! walked about a mile but it was a lot of hill!
Didn't take a lot of pictures because the major blowdown section you've already seen, but I was struck by this particular spot where most everything went down. and two of the firs still standing are only standing because they got fouled up in that maple.
Also took this pic of the creek in winter
