This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Have a good ride :)
Send some of your rain this way. We could sure use it here.
If it would agree, I would agree!
Have a good day - got to get ready to go watch Tuffy.
I hope he makes you proud, we’ll look forward to the pictures!
Happy Birthday MT!!!!! :-D
I did go to the horse show for a couple of hours. It was a double point show with two judges. Alison was holding her own and placing, but not any big wins. She still had trail to do when I left.
Toothaches are the worst. Hope you are feeling better.
Happy Birthday. May all your dreams come true.
Apparently he holds his head too low for the judge. In the picture of three people, the girl in green is Kelly’s daughter. The horse in the middle placed above them, Kelly was 6th, her daughter 5th.
His head is a bit low in a few of the pictures, he also may be getting to far behind the bit to in a few. But 6th and 3rd is not bad. He really looks good in the red:).
I had an interesting evening. I got over to Debbies to feed, and the first thing I notice is a horse down. Several of the boarders, and the lady that is watering the plants were all there and no one else noticed. The horse was obviously colicing. One of the boarders did walk the horse while I finished feeding so I would be done by the time the vet got there. He didn’t think it was a serious colic, but he oiled her, and gave her a pain shot. I had to go back and check on her 2hours later. She seems alot better, but still hasn’t pooped.

He did look very good in red. I'm undecided I guess. I ~think~ his head is a little too low some of the time. Bob and Kelly and Janelle think it's right. I think part of the problem is he is still a bit high in the rear and when he changes to a canter from any gait he pushs off his rear end and his head goes down, or so it seems to me.
I have to say in the show business, I'm at the bottom of the pile as far as opinions and advice. I was told part of the way he is going is because he's so collected - well, I can see that, and I can see that he's enjoying himself, but it doesn't look to me like he'd be comfortable to ride down the trail. Does that make sense?
Hi - Tuffy is going to be wonderful... He is overbent and behind the bit in some of the pictures, but that might be just where he’s at in training right now... she’s still having to slow and rein him in. He’s on a tight rein in all the pictures. Tighter than they’d want in WP... was he in a snaffle class or a regular open class? That might affect how he was judged too. He wouldn’t do well yet in open against more finished horses.
When he’s finished and in a full bit, and hopefully his butt will come up so he’s not so downhill, he’ll be where you want him to be, probably. She should be starting to get him to where he’s collected on a much looser rein and he won’t overbend then.
Oh dear... I hope she’s over it by morning. Did you have to call the vet or is it in the hands of the owner of the horse? Is anyone checking her in the night?
Theoretically, he was in a green western pleasure class although I think only Kelly and her daughter were riding green young horses. The second class was equitation, just because Kelly wanted to give him a chance to go into another class.
