The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I don’t care who you are, Cheech and Chong are hysterical :-D Have you ever heard their Santee Cleeze (sp) song? Funny! I watched That 70s Show just to watch Chong.

Yeah, he stuck a coffee bean in his nose.

LOL...I’ve never heard that skit, or just don’t remember it:)

The came out just fine:)...they numbed his nose with some drops, and reached in and got it.

Kristy said the doctor laughed, said there was a kid in yesterday whom they had to dig rocks out of his ears:). Pretty common problem with kids. Jenny put a lite bright peg in her nose once...luckily she sneezed it out while I was trying to get it with tweezers:)

Well I’m glad to hear that it came out OK, literally. I wonder what on earth possessed him to put it up there in the first place. I’ll bet pediatricians fish a lot of strange things out of strange places. Probably the most interesting part of their job.

Shelley is a little bit anxious in agility -- she's always happier when we're done with the course. You can see how she's looking at me, "Is this right?" It does slow her times down.

It's because she was my first agility dog, and I "hovered" too much . . . instead of letting her go all out and correct the mistakes after we got the speed. But it's all relative -- she does have both her Excellent titles, most dogs never make it past Novice let alone Open. She'll just never make Master Agility Champion because her times are too slow.

So now we're working on Hunting Retriever which she enjoys very much, 'cause we didn't start doing that til she was three!

The first one of anything usually bears the brunt of all your mistakes. Bob, the first colt I ever imprinted and raised from birth is a bit spoiled for that very reason. But I love him anyways.

Man I have ZERO work ethic today. My office/lab is above a movie theatre, and I have a strong urge to knock off early and go see a movie.

Sounds like a good idea to me! I’m not worth killing today either. I’m looking forward to the big St. Jude ride tomorrow. It’s stormy today, but that’s because a cool front is moving through so it should be sunny and cooler by tomorrow morning. I’m meeting my riding buddies at 7:30 and we’ll pretty much be there all day. I was going to ride Ellie, the 2yr old I just got back from the trainer, but the older horses gave her a pretty hard time when she first got back and ran her through a bunch of briars and she’s kinda skinned up, plus it’s a pretty long ride and I don’t want to over do with her right off the bat. Bob is barefoot right now because he threw a shoe and took a big chunk of foot with it, my friend Elizabeth is going to ride Hope, so I guess I’ll ride Grace. Sometimes having too many horses is a good thing! ;o)

Enjoy that ride, it sounds like a blast. You certainly have a lot of spare horses! :-) Man, wish I had that problem. My trainer sprung something on me today- she wants me to buy Levi if she has to sell him when she moves. I was floored- it came totally out of left field. Well, it did and it didn't. I have been riding him and we get along well. (i.e. he's very tolerant of my mistakes) I do have a soft spot for the moose, he's lulled me into a false sense of security. :-)

I'm going to look at that saddle tomorrow. I'll let you know what I come back with. My mother is bringing my grandmother to watch me ride, so there will be pictures. :-) The funny part? Grandma is afraid of horses. Extremely Afraid. So we'll see what happens. (grin)

I didn't go to the movies but I was Oh So Tempted. So Tempted. I even went into the theatre on my lunch break to see what was playing when. The devil sitting on my shoulder was all: "Well you're already here.... doesn't a movie sound so Nice and Inviting on a Friday?"
The good Angel sitting on my other shoulder was like: "Yeah stupid, and then you'll get fired, and then you'll NEVER get to go to a movie."

Is there someone registered under "no one in particular" I wonder? Because boy, he must get a lot of random posts. :-)

Howdy... we’re back... company has headed south again, and we may need a couple days to recover :~)

Having company is hard work!

I agree, company is hard work - but generally a lot of fun too. Did they enjoy themselves?

The Arab colt is beautiful, he reminds me a lot of Quest when he was very young.

Hope you can buy Levi, he sounds like a good horse who will take care of you no matter what his size is :)

So - the tooth thing was catching :( Finally got into the dentist today after a severe tooth/teeth ache since Wednesday night. I have a badly abcessed tooth that I am now being refered to another dentist for - apparently a root canal, as the dentist wants to save the tooth. He didn't want my opinion which was pull that sucker out. The dentist I'm being refered to wasn't open today so hopefully I can reach them Monday and make an appointment.

Tuffy is going to be shown Sunday in a local show so we are driving up for that. We'll see how he does. We haven't seen him for a few weeks, I'm hoping his front end caught up with his rear end. He was high in the rear when we last saw him.

I need to spend tomorrow freezing squash and hopefully go by to see a friend who is having a BBQ and mini horse show type thing.
