Target flew my sister over there first class and the hotel she describes as 4/5 star quality. The photos she's taking are gorgeous and revolting by turns. Depends on which part of the city she was in when she took 'em...
Good Day, all.
Fifty-one degrees and mostly cloudy at my house. Drying out after the last few days of on-and-off rain/drizzle/mist, etc.
Drilling through the text of last night’s Republican debate, wherein Fred — AT LONG LAST — showed some fire, and zeal.

Also, a friend emailed me that Jonah Goldberg has a new book out, so I posted the review, and discussion has ensued here:

Don't know yet. I was supposed to go speak at a conference there, but have had zero success reaching the person who was supposed to arrange for me to speak there. Today I saw the list of technical sessions is (finally) posted online, and I'm not in it.
I sent e-mails to the three people who can sort this out (two of them my bosses), but the one in Germany is out of the office for a couple of weeks, the one here in Redmond is apparently away from e-mail today, and the one in China is probably only just now waking up on Saturday morning.
There were two other things I was going to do as long as I was there, but one was being arranged by my vanished colleague and that plus the other may not be worth the expense of the trip.
If it means I stay home in February, well, I'll just enjoy the time at home.
That's India. But don't take the "revolting" too far -- India is often dirty, but you have to adapt. Last time I had coffee with my hosts in what had to be the dirtiest establishment I've ever entered, but I enjoyed the time.
