The imaginary box you're in has no more reality or limitations than that of a street mime. My perception of the "box" is of the preset mindsets (yeesh! a term needing definition) people take on when addressing a problem. I've seen people, engineers even, get stuck in the ruts of "what's been done before." Going outside is absolutely no guarantee of success but it gives you more options, and chances for success.
