"The B-B field would zip us around pretty good, but would also set up a highly polarized -e field around us. Anything getting close would be vectored in, accelerated, and "equal but opposite" reactioned out the other end." We could probably live with that. The only things in our axial center are the Zero-Gee swimming pool, the labs, and the solar mirror. We can stow those things if we need to.
A "phase" drive, huh? I guess I'd better polish up my multi-dimensional math skills.

Cash doesn't have much value on the castle...I'll only take diamonds.

I have heard that the center of Jupiter might be one very large diamond....

VERY large...
But we'll need a black obelisk to get to it...

Perhaps I can barter.
I have some cans of Weemsco Tuna I have been saving for a special occasion. You interested?

"I'll only take diamonds." Do you require isotopically pure? And in what carat size, or do you just need a few pounds?

Pure and large--not necessarily that important--you don't need big diamonds for industrial apps...

Did you know that it takes a carat and a half of diamonds to make a car?

I've never heard that, but it doesn't surprise me with all of the industrial processed involved in making a car, or at least the tooling for making cars.

More miles to the gallon!
And very good collision rating.

Using industrial diamonds in milling processes makes sense for repetitive procedures, but we depend on
electrochemical machining for our typically one-off productions.
Under computer control, all you have to do is input the desired dimensions.
It's easier to recycle the chemicals that it is to remake carbon crystals.

"And very good collision rating." I don't know. I'd be worried about the spark plugs getting carboned up.

That's just a more modern and precise form of
stereo lithography that has been around awhile.

I don't let them run around outside The Castle. They might get lost. And they look so pretty and sparkly running around the ring

BTW, E. M. will result in a major revolution in manufacturing of mass produced parts as soon as the technology is efficient enough. I will have to be upgrading my MFG skills to keep up with it.

Stereo lithography marries up well with lost-wax castings. However, EM can carve directly on the metal. Basically, this gives the difference between a cast part and billet machining. Required strength can be the determining factor.
Now let us speculate about how accurately EM could produce a plate for manufacturing currency. And then calculate how long it would take, at a minute per square nanometer.

I did see at a tech show, a few years back, a machine that did stereo lithography out of sintered metal--the machine worked great, but the idea never caught on.
