Most drivers have done it - fiddled with a CD, talked on a cell phone or scolded a child while behind the wheel, getting momentarily distracted from the road.
But a Yonkers woman who tried another mundane task while driving - putting on her makeup - paid a terrible price yesterday when she lost control of her car on the Henry Hudson Parkway in the Bronx and slammed into a tree, police said.
Lusaed Perez, 34, went into cardiac arrest and later died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers, police said.
"There was makeup all over the air bag," said a police source.
Open containers of cosmetics also were found in the front seat, the source said.
Perez was driving a 2005 black Mitsubishi northbound on the parkway about 7 a.m. when she veered off the road by a bend where the Henry Hudson turns into the Saw Mill River Parkway, police said.
Alone in the car and not wearing a seatbelt, Perez careened over 200 feet of grass before hitting a tree, authorities said.
Witnesses driving alongside Perez told cops they saw her applying makeup as she drove, the source said.

Reading this, one assumes that she travelled 200 feet OUTSIDE the car.
Well, she won't be doing it anymore
RUSH LIMBAUGH 'FARDING' ALERT!
I don't care if I get flamed for this but I really think this story is funny despite the loss of a life. The good news - her departure raised the average IQ of her neighborhood by a full 10 points.
Thankfully, this moron didn't end up killing an innocent person on the street.
That's what I thought, too.
No flame here.
Evolution in action. A bit of chlorine for the gene pool.
We ALL thought the same, no doubt, but some, perhaps in the Christmas spirit, refrained from posting it...
LOL, you beat me to it.
She didn't hurt anyone else and eliminated a threat from the roads. My daily commuting wish has been fulfilled!
It is sad she had to die to learn an obvious lesson. I doubt the roads will be much safer due to the number of idiots who behave in the same manner. It's a sad commentary on our society that any of them are permitted the privilege to drive.
And then got makeup all over the air bag? That'd be a neat trick.
This is sad but I keep thinking of the imprint of a clown face on the airbag. I know, that's in bad taste but funny.
Ironically, as cars become safer, I think any advantage is negated because people just drive faster and riskier. I have an older pickup I use for general hauling and pickup stuff. The only plastic on the entire truck is in the tail lights, and turn signals, and the knobs on the dash, and drum brakes all around. That's it. Knowing that - it's keep 'er around 50 and between the ditches. Today, we have padded dash, steering wheel, air-bags, power-brakes, power-steering, ABS, anti-lock brakes, sound-deadening materials and virtually silent engines if desired. Coupled with mandatory, full-coverage insurance on a bank-owned vehicle, I'm convinced people just don't care, since they have no concept of ownership, either financial or of their body.
Well said!
Locally, some poor guy was killed in an accident caused by an idiot that stopped in her lane because she had a flat.
Reminds me of a chapter from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil:
A truck driver was observing a woman doing exactly what this one was -- applying make up. She was also eating. And she kept turning her head to her right, but no one was in the passenger seat.
When he saw her pull over, he followed her because he was so curious. "Don't you think it's dangerous?" he said. She laughed and they talked about it.
Finally, he asked her why she was turning her head.
"Well, I have to keep up with my soaps, don't I"?
