You might not consider it, but if Ohio State beats Florida then chances are they will become one of the very few unanimous National Champions ever.
I know I know, playoffs yadda yadda yadda....
If you want playoffs, I'd suggest, as much as I disagree with the system, that you get used to it. The money is talking with the bowls and the BCS and as long as they are able to both
A) Secure a TV contract and
B) the networks are able to sell the ad time on the games..
things aren't going to change.
At the MOST we'll get a plus one format and I doubt we'll get that.
I still think Ohio St beats the pants off Florida and is the best team playoffs or not.....
Well yeah, on paper, just like Texas was last year. And that is how it should be in this system. But the system proves nothing, just like last year. No way to say that UT would have prevailed in a rematch with OSU, odds are that sooner or later Vince Young wouldn't have been able to outscore UT's less-than-stellar defense. Would have been as exciting as hell to see that playoff.
We are going to get a plus one game, and it isn't that far away. Once that happens, evolving into a playoff is inevitable.
It's why the Big10 doesn't complain about playing their big bowl in LA - often against USC or UCLA - most every year and just says things like "We'll have to be a *lot* better to win". It bites for bragging rights, but it's a lot more lucrative to play in the warm. Who wants to go to Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinios or Indiana for January. Heck, Pasadena was FOUNDED specifically to get away from Indiana winter weather.
