3 years before after Nebraska lost something like its 6th straight Bowl to a fast team from the South East, OSborne and McBride did a complete over haul, because frankly we were getting to be embarressing. In 1993 every body and there dog thought that FSU was going to smoke us, we lost because of a phantom clip and a FG that sailed wide right. The next year Miami was the clear favorite, and finally we broke through and beat them, leaving everybody satisfied watching fat Sapp gasping for air. I guess my point is that Nebraska had built a reputation of being slow midwest boys and should never have been taken lightly by the national media and Florida fans.
Another thing about the media - they had their panties all in a twist about Lawrence Phillips, and a lot of them were rooting against Nebraska because of him. The media, the same crew that eggs Terrell Owens on so they can cop easy headlines, and then acts all "outraged" about what he does to get those headlines. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
To be fair, I think any team that went up against that Nebraska squad in that game would have been slaughtered like the Gators were. It was just Florida's bad luck to be the one to face the buzzsaw.
