"For something to be "overrated" it has to by highly rated to begin with."
Bingo.
So here are my first three:
1) "Alexander Nevsky" - Prokofiev's score is about the only worthy thing about it - hammish acting, lousy sets (most of the battle on the ice was shot indoors), amateurish special effects. Stalin should have gone with his first instinct and canned the thing.
2) "The Philadelphia Story" - Most of the 30s "screwball comedies" were about rich twits acting goofy; in this one they just stand around and talk the audience into a coma (and when is someone going to shoot that bratty kid sister?).
3) "The Sting" - Everything else is first-rate except for Redford; I dislike Johnny Hooker more each time I watch this.

Stalin should have gone with his first instinct and canned the thing. After shooting the director.

I like most of Alfred Hitchcock's films and several are favorites of mine.

NIGHTS OF CABIRIA is what the Broadway musical SWEET CHARITY was based on.
As good as NOC is, LA STRADA is a far superior film, on all counts. And every single actor and actress in it, is absolutely amazing!
8 1/2 was also used as a basis for a Broadway show...9; but that didn't really work at all.
8 1/2 is actually more autobio from Fellini, the title coming from the number of movies he had directed to that date.

I too like a lot of his films.

Somewhere in Time--Saw it last night and couldn't believe what a lousy actor Superman was.
Anything with Julia Roberts--Queen of the Monotone. Ennui, anyone?

Pulp Fiction was awful--then I rewatched it as a parable of redemption and really liked it.

I have the DVD too, but it's kinda like the Notre Dame football team.
Decent to Good, but perpetually overrated.

It was "okay"; not something I would suggest you go out of your way to watch.

I love Casino Royale, it grows on you, its such a grand mess, but the music is great with Herb Alpert.
Have you seen "Russian Ark"?
Entire film shot in one, continual shot in the Hermitage. With thousands of extras. Its a tour through the museum and through Russian history. Its amazing how they could do it in one take for over 90 minutes, and covering nearly a half mile of walking.

maybe, but we've seen this Notre Ame team get killed by competent competition all year long.
And LSU looks eerily similiar to Ohio State from this point LAST year to my eyes.

I can't stand him, so I think I'll take a pass on that one.

Just saw Match Point by Woody Allen and was blown away by it. Chilling, absolutely chilling. Might Aphrodite was funny. The rest is very forgettable.

I have been watching the early English Hitchcocks and then re-watching them while listening to the film historian's comments. This has made them so much more interesting for me and given me new insights on his techniques in his later movies. Awesome director.

LOL....I started seeing and LOVING these movies when I was a little girl. They used to show them on T.V. a LOT, on local N.Y.C. T.V. and I always watched them, when they were on. Now, I try to catch them whenever TCM shows them. They are all GREAT movies!
Oh my goodness, you are going to be movied out! hehehehehehe
To: nopardons
LOL --- please, do not waste your time. I promise you, I despise Allen's humor and hate his cast members.
