The Dragonflies' Lair~Thread XXXII~

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Odd the things a mind turns to in the empty hours.

Twixt Dusk and Dawn

Soft the subtle turnings of a tired mind
here in the long and oh so lonely hours
between each dusk and its dawn
trapped by the odd turning and twisting
and deceptive deep flow of hidden thoughts
often alone in those somber halls within

On what do we our shaky reality pin
as we wait to see what fate casts as our lot
struggling to see through the misting
of memories we might wish to pawn
or cast unremembered into ancient towers
afraid of what we’re all too likely to find

Of this poets are born, shedding all that binds
reflecting on some horizon or warm red bowers
building images from mental timber scarcely sawn
using structure to keep them from a sudden listing
until dawn drives us worn to our restless cots
disturbed only by the alarm clocks unholy din

Hidden deep, deep in the glen
Autumn winds blow and blow again
fallen leaves cover the ground
with magnificent color in the glen.

My Lord and Lady sadly depart the grounds
for the Great Room of the Castle Grand,
warmed by the fireplaces they stand soaking in the heat.

Lovers of the glen they be, Lord and Lady of Glenn Gaul Way
long their reign shall be, in the mystical, magic land.

In Autumn ‘twas when they met, years ago on a bet
twixt beggars in a far off land trading toads hand to hand.
The oath they uttered on a misty, cloudy night
deep and low in their throats in a language not complete,
nor understood by living modern man.
Two by day, six by night, whirl round the dragon’s cave,
half past midnight, turn the wheel, spin the rod, hold the toad
by its tail, magic oaths he does know and how doth the cock crow at dawn.

Muttering on into the night the spell they spun held rod iron tight.
Written on jewels and gold the very dragon did hold in the cove.
Two fair children in the land hold the specter in their hand
lowly beings though they be long held in secret royalty
humble in their sod abodes, dressed in rags and filled with gruel
these two humble servants shall grow to rule the castle grand in the vale of Glenn Gaul Way.

The magic slowly began to play on the fair ones in the village.
In Summer days when work was done just before dusk
off to the dragon’s cave they fled, peeking in that darken hole, to see the dragon’s eyes glow.

Hand in hand they marveled at his size and strength.
A glint by the dragon’s eyes led they to know he was not
to harm them in the cave. One warm evening just before fall of dusk,
he whispered to them to listen.

He began to sing a strange song.

“Two by day, six by night, whirl round the dragon’s cave,
half past midnight, turn the wheel, spin the rod, hold the toad
by its tail, magic oaths he does know and how doth the cock crow at dawn.
Muttering on into the night the spell they spun held rod iron tight.
Written on jewels and gold the very dragon did hold in the cove."

They grew to be a handsome couple dreaming of a better life.
Working hard in days light with just a second of play in the dusk and listen to the dragon.

Each time they came to the cove the dragon sang more of the song.
“Two fair children holding hands, living in the far off land,
grown to woman, and grown to man, hold the rod to rule the land.
Lowly lives do they lead, humble servants to the Lords and Ladies grand
ruling with a deadly cruel hand, iron fisted in their ways beatings, too, along the way.
Sad the children of this land, ragged clothes, and roughened hands.
But beauty cannot be hid.

So struggle on young lad and lassie
sing the chants the dragon sings
Watch the stars for any changing
odd bells a ringing in the land.
The curse will break, the land be free
from here on to eternity.
And the gentle land of Glenn Gaul Way
will last forever and a day.

Twixt Dusk and Dawn

Oh, this poem is wonderful, depicting so vividly the inner working of a poet's soul and mind, setting and tempering the fire of writing -from the heart and soul -the
very private life of a poet.

there's a dragon in my lunchbox

there's a dragon in my lunchbox,
it's a bright cherry red.
i feel like it can see right through me,
or know every word i've ever said.
i'm staring at the dragon,
wondering why it's there.
i turned around to tell my friends, but then when i looked back
the lunchbox dragon was trying to eat my lunch, but ate my friends instead.
so i'm sitting with a man-eating dragon,
when suddenly it eats me whole!

so then the dragon moved all over the school,
eating everything he can.
just now he ate a computer,
and half the library too.
i'm wondering when he'll spit me out,
or if he'll get rid of the librarian, and her awfull smell.
so i'm typing in a dragon,
with the slimy black keyboard.
i've been in here forever,
and i'll maybe never get out!

"Love is not easy," You once told me,
"Watch me in the garden, and you will see
How Love is a struggle, hard and heavy,
When Love and our wants do not agree,
And the prayer on our lips is, 'Father, hear me!'
And we, hearing Him in Love, do not flee.
This is a sacrifice most pleasing."

Love is not easy - I understand, but know
When I am touched by the hand of loss and sorrow,
The road of hard choices where Love has me go,
You have walked that hard road, too and the shadows only show
There is light up ahead, where you vanquished the foe.
Help me to love, Lord.

Lady picks another winner. LOL It's so humorous. ;)

I'll eat you up for lunch
making sure there's lot of crunch.
A red lunch lunch box dragon
has the appetite of an ocean
filled with lemon aid, and cream cheese
covered bagels on the side.
Hear me roar for more of lunch box raids
with little ones for dessert.

The Dragon

Grace, Power, Beauty.
All are encompassed in this magnificent creature.
Gliding high overhead,
He dances upon the thermals above, surveying all below.
With unimagined speed he dives,
Filling with terror the hearts of those below.
Racing above the treetops,
He bears down on his target.
With one sweep of his mighty wings,
The village is leveled,
Nothing left but memories.
Returning to his lair,
He is content in the knowledge that he rules all that he surveys,
Crouched upon the ledge,
He spreads his wings,
And with a mighty roar,
Leaps into the sky.
The Dragon flies again,
And He is Me.
