"Living off the grid" entirely isn't practical. Having, say, a well, and septic, and growing a lot of your own food, that sort of thing, is doable. Electricity's the big on the grid thing you'd be stuck with and honestly, if the electrical system goes down permanently, you'll have more to worry about than power.
You may not be able to move to Montana in the short run but I bet you could get a little more away from it all if you wanted. Not that it wouldn't be challenging...
I didn't really mean it literally. Just got carried away. But I would like to live more like where I grew up. Good sized patch of land off the beaten track, and some means of making a living that doesn't require going to *town* everyday.
Like I said, I can dream.
