I'm not sure who sets the rules. Jet Blue was hardly the only one - they just happened to be the most extreme case I've ever heard of.

I sat next to a gal who had a friend on another plane and they were further up in the take-off queue. We got more status information by calling her friend on the cell than we got from our own crew. It was from her friend that we learned that the airport had closed and that planes were skidding around on the ice. This is not surprising because Delta can't even be bothered to announce which baggage claim to go to. But Delta wasn't about to let us off the plane. They showed us a movie and gave us water and snacks. Yippee. Folks were getting mighty irritable at the 3-hour mark.

See I wouldn't mind too much being stuck on JetBlue, as long as I could watch my little TV with the DirectTV Satellite choices! We sat in the lineup at JFK for over two hours on my last flight home from FL after taking Clare to school, but being able to watch the tv made that time just fly by! 10 hours IS a bit much, but if the airline didn't have any control over that delay, it's not fair to pin them with all the blame.
