When I lived in MN, I visited the U of MN campus a couple times. In addition to the radiant heat under the sidewalks, they also have an extensive pedestrian tunnel system. You can get from building to building without having to go outside.

Pretty handy stuff when it's -20° outside.

We looked at Canisius College in Buffalo NY, for Clare, and it had the same set up. Tunnels went from building to building, so that in the winter, the kids never had to go outside to get to any building on campus. Handy in a place where they get so much snow every year.
